川上稔さんとさとやすさんによる「境界線上のホライゾン」
その第一話がこの巻にて完結となります。

トーリとホライゾンの過去が語られ、正純の秘密が明かされ、武蔵とインノケンティウスとの対立が本格化し、そしてタイトルにある「境界線上」という名前の由来の一部も垣間見ることができる下巻。
登場人物の様々な思惑が交差する中、戦闘は激化し、トーリの変態度は上がり、物語は加速していきます。

上巻に引き続き膨大な文章量で書かれる下巻ですが、相変わらずの川上さんの構成力のお陰で一度勢いに乗ると最後までスラスラと読むことができ、さらに、作中にあるさとやすさんが描いた6ページに及ぶの一枚絵は圧巻の一言で、「ああ、始まったんだな」と思わせてくれる素晴らしい完成度でした。

このように数あるラノベの中でも間違いなく良作の部類に入る「境界線上のホライゾン」ではあるのですが、通常のラノベ2〜3冊分に及ぶ圧倒的な厚さのせいか、書店でこの作品を手にとる人を見ても、そのほとんどが元に戻してしまうのが現状です。
確かにラノベにあるまじき厚さではありますが、買って後悔するようなことはないと思うので、まだ読んだことのない方は上巻から読んでみてください。

ちなみに次の２〈上〉は6月10日発売予定です。

10年前の事故が全ての始まり。
一人の少年は、後悔を得て今を生き、一人の少女は、感情を失って今を生きる。

一巻下から膨大な情報量＆ページ数。
だからこそ作られる濃厚な世界はどこまで広がっていくのか。

見える“終わり”変えるために起こる、世界を巻き込んでの大騒動。
今後登場する“大罪武装”、そしてホライゾンが失った感情が戻った時、何が起こるのでしょう。

終わりのクロニクルなどで知られる川上氏。
その期待の新シリーズ第１話がこれで完結となります。

上巻は物語の導入部といった印象が結構強かったですが、
下巻になってからは武蔵を巡る物語が大きく動き始めます。
最終話のような１話目を書こうと思った、と村上氏自身があとがきで語るように
進めば進むほどに怒涛の展開を見せてくれる内容でした。
論戦あり、集団戦あり、一騎打ちありと、際限なく盛り上がっていきます。
随所に挟まれる軽快な会話のやりとりも心地良いですね。

そして当然の如く増加して行くページ数・・・
上巻は500ページを超えており非常に読み応えのある内容でしたが
下巻は、何と更にプラス200ページされて700ページ超。
第１話なのに衝撃的なボリュームで、この先一体どうなることでしょう。

特殊な用語や設定が際限無く飛び出してくるので、
ボリュームの多さも相まって、ラノベの中でも覚悟が要る部類だとは思いますが
それを克服してでも読みたいと思えるだけの魅力があるなぁと思いました。
