長らく続いた過去編も前巻で終了し、いよいよ本巻から「機動戦士ガンダム」本編に帰還です。しかもジャブローを先にやったため「カットされたのでは?」と心配されたミハル編!!　ここをしっかりやってくれただけで感無量。（展開のアレンジ上順番を変えただけのようです。オリジンでは地球上の最後の戦いをジャブローではなくオデッサの大反抗作戦に持ってくるらしい。ジムの投入で連邦とジオンの戦力バランスが変わったことを考えると、確かに理にかなってます）

ミハル編、何度も見てるはずなんですが何度見ても泣けます。過去編があまりに面白かったため、本編に入ったら退屈してしまうのでは?　との心配も杞憂でした。やはり今の安彦氏の描写力でガンダムを読めることは、無上の喜びだ。

安彦様の新解釈ファーストガンダム依然加熱中！
基本は劇場版だが各ＭＳもストーリーも新しく
しかし名シーン･名言はそのままに素晴らしい作品

ベルファストに着いたホワイトベース一行
シャアの追尾はあるものの休息の時
しかし迫るはジオンの水中専用ＭＳ
カイは戦線離脱をほのめかすが
ピンチのホワイトベースが気になってアレする
再び洋上に出たホワイトベースに乗り込んだミハルはカイと再開
複雑な両者に考える暇も与えない
ジオンの水中専用ＭＳとＭＡ
グラブロにとりつくガンダム
ＭＳ迎撃を敢行するガンペリー
戦いは終わりほっと胸をなでおろした時に
ミハルの姿は無かった
小さな体から流れ出た血で大きな大西洋が少しだけ血に染まったのだった

アニメ版の数話を詰め込んだ濃いい内容の今巻
多くのジオンの水中専用ＭＳまとめて出演が派手で目立つが
それもおまけ
やはりメインはカイとミハル
スポンサー・子供向けのＭＳ戦も減らし
主人公偏重の無いスポットの当て方で
二人の心情が細かく描かれていて読み応えがありました

オリジンを通して読んでいなくても
今巻は読んで欲しいですね

アニメを知っている人なら、誰がこの巻の主役で、どんな話なのか、すぐに見当がつく表紙になっていますね。
本巻では、アニメのあらすじにメジャーチェンジとマイナーチェンジ（どの部分がそうなのかは読んでからのお楽しみ）が施されているのですが、「ふたり」が出会いすぐにすれ違うという物語の筋と情緒はしっかりと温存されたままになっています。
「あれ？カイとミハル、はぶかれた？」と思ってた人、ご安心を。
