こういう形でガンダムと再会できたことが嬉しい。ストーリーは全部知っているのに、なぜか読まずにいられない。この表紙を見て何か感じた人ならば、購入して裏切られることはないと思う。「マ・クベ」が気になる自分としては、彼の台詞が増えているのは嬉しい限りだ。

単に「キャラデザイナー本人が手がけた」などというレベルでは語ることが出来ない、至高の作品。
「ガンダム」という、昔からのコアなファンを多く持つ作品を扱うというのは、期待が大きいほど不評を買ってしまいがちであり、「似て非なるもの」に対する拒絶感が大きいものだが（例：ＤＶＤの特別版）、これを全く感じさせないどころか、昔からのファンにこそ読んでもらいたい､素晴らしい作品。
あえてアニメと異なる構成にしている部分も見事にハマっている。あまりの巧さに唸り、寒気を覚えてしまうほどだ。

正直､はじめは「安彦さん、なんで引き受けちゃったの？」とか否定的にとらえていたのだが（そういう人多いと思う）、読まなきゃ損です。いやホントに。

ハモン、リュウ、マチルダの最期、そして黒い三連星のドムが登場。

アニメ版とは変更点も多いのですが、マンガとして実に巧く構成されているので、すんなりと物語の中に入って行けます。群像ドラマとしても良質のでき。

絵としては、地上の山並みが中国の山水画のようなタッチで描かれているのが不思議な感じです。

全て一人で描いているせいか（情報がないので真偽は不明ですが）、メカ・キャラ・背景のマッチングが素晴らしい！

キャラとしては、アニメ版以上にハモンがいい女に描かれていて、大人の女だけでなく、少女っぽい憧憬／恋心の表情にクラっと来てしまいます。

マニアックなところでは、ルウム戦役でのシャアや黒い三連星（しっかりと旧ザク）の描写が語られるのも見逃せません。
