本書はいわゆる経済小説というジャンルにおいて非常に良作であると思う
一般の方たちには難解だと思われる国際金融の世界を人物の背景にまで目を配って上手く描ききっているのが印象的だ

ただ本書はこうした小説としての価値に止まらず、現実の金融業界、ひいては日本企業全体について考えさせられるものでもあると私は思う
一方の主人公である龍花という男の生き様は同情を禁じえないくらい入り込んでしまった
それは国内金融業界の器の狭さが生んだ悲劇のようなもので、現実にも十分有り得るものといえるからだろう
才能があり努力を人一倍する真に優秀な人間が外資に流れる背景がこの龍花という一人の男を通して克明に描かれている点が本書の中でとくに秀逸だと感じた
実は国内企業だの外資系だのと分類すること自体陳腐なことかもしれないが、それでも有能もしくは有能になりうる原石がとくに金融業界において外資に流れる背景には、外資が魅力的ということ以上に国内の金融機関に大きな欠陥がある証左だろう
本書を通じて考えさせられた次第である

読み始めは、難解な専門用語が目白押しで（説明はあるものの）、途中で読むのを断念しそうになった。
ところが、登場人物の性格や背景が描かれるにつれて、小説としてのめりこんでしまった。

主人公の一人である龍花が日本企業で味わった苦悩と屈辱、それをばねにして外資系企業で活躍する様は、日系企業に勤めたことがあるサラリーマンならばある程度は共感してしまうところだろう。

国際協調融資、ＴＯＢなどとっつきにくそうな内容が、実在しそうな個性ある登場人物たちによって非常にスピーディーで先の読めない良質なエンターテインメントになっているのに驚かされる。

黒木氏はマネー誌「ＭＯＮＥＹ」のコラムを連載されていた時に知りました。この文庫では一部加筆された部分があり、不良債権処理で国内金融機関が疲弊していた１９９７年頃から２０００年頃までの世界的金融・投資関連の動きが解かり易く、ストーリーに織り込んであります。株式投資やＦＸなど、これから自己責任の上に立って資産運用を考えている人には、登場人物達の「１億５０００万ドル」が身近に思えるのでは。
