江戸もの怪談集。
具体的に霊や鬼がどうのというよりは、際だって恐ろしいのは「人間」だと
印象づけた。そして、温かいのも「人間」。全く救いのない結末であり、謎のままの結末もあり、残る読後感は様々。全体として、なんだかほろ苦い。

時代物は、読む方にもある程度の知識を要求するようで身構えてしまうものが多いのに、宮部さんのものはすーっと彼女の世界に入っていける。
凄惨な「影牢」は突出しているが、好きな物をひとつ選べと言われたら、女性が語る柔らかい「安達家の鬼」が好きだ。

江戸を舞台にした怪談がメイン。
どの話にも霊的要素がある。
けれど夜中に一人でトイレに行けないとか言うような怖さではない。
霊が出る、出ないよりも、それについて語る人間や、聞き手にまつわるエピソードのほうが怖いのだ。
収録作「安達家の鬼」などは読んでる自分が怖くなる、というのは読み手(私自身)の脛に傷があるから?

なにより怖いのは「人」なのだ。
怖いながらもいろいろ考えさせられる話が続々。
だから宮部みゆきはやめられない。

暑い夏の夜、ふとんに持って入るのにぴったり。
一気にスーッと涼しくなること、請け合い！

個人的に一番好きだったのは「安達家の鬼」。
幽霊も鬼も恐ろしくはあるけれど、
それにも増して怖いのは人の心の業と哀しさ、
そう語りかけてくるような短編。

藤沢周平的ヒューマニズムはせつなく、
江戸的情緒はあくまでも美しく、

読み終わったあとは一人でトイレにいくのがコワイ。

宮部みゆき、読ませまっせ。お一ついかが？
