『をんな紋』３部作の完結編、前２作を読んでこの本ものめり込む様にして読みました。第一部で女子師範に通っていた柚喜ももう孫がいます。柚喜の親族、同じ女紋を持つ者たちの思いが切々と鮮やかです。時は戦中に移っていて現代に近いせいもあり、自分の親戚に話を直接聞いているかのように物語が心に迫ってきます。

冷静にいつも家のためを一番に考えてきた柚喜。その子どもたちと嫁が物語の中心。男は戦争に取られ、人々の暮らしも心も少しづつ険しくなって行く中、互いの思いが少しづつかみ合わなくなり、思いは行き違うことも多くなる。

『はしりぬける川』に描かれた千代と兄弟･友人ののんびりした生活が痛々しくまぶしく、また第２の主人公ともいえる氷菜の存在がたまらなく切ないのです。どうしてこうなってしまうのか、と悲鳴が聞こえてきそう。
清濁あわせもった物語、でも「川」がサブタイトルあるとおり澱んだ感じのない濁りのない物語だと思います。すごく読みごたえがありました。

読んで絶対に損はないです。おすすめです。

前2作もすばらしかったのですが、時代が現代により近くなっていることもあり、作中人物に自分が完全に入り込みました。女性にだけ伝わる紋に託して作者は、いつの時代にも存在する、女であることの理不尽を問いたかったのでしょうか。かなりの分量になるにもかかわらず、この三部作を一気に読み終えずにはいられませんでした。そして、はかなく消えていく女たちの真心に、私は涙が止まりませんでした。
