　主人公はウォール街の投資会社の若き経営者でしかも独身貴族、超高級マンションに住み、欲しい物は何でも手に入る生活をしていた。しかしある日目覚めてみると状況は一変、NY郊外のタイヤ会社に勤める妻子持ちになっていた。過去とは雲泥の差で、あくせくと時間と生活に追われる日々に当初は強い拒否反応を示していた主人公が、次第に金では買えない幸せの存在に気づき満足してゆく。しかし再び状況は一変した・・・。心あたたまるクリスマスの物語である。

仕事も順風満帆、35歳にしてウォール街で成功を収め、
何不自由なくゴージャスな生活を送るジャック。
再会を約束して海外研修で地元を離れて以来、
結局そのままになってしまった大学時代のガールフレンド、ケイト。
それから13年が経ち、彼がある朝目覚めると、
そこは『ケイトと結婚している世界』だった・・・。

アイディアとしては目新しいわけではないがストーリーがテンポよく進み、
突然別の世界に放り込まれたジャックが最初は戸惑い、
ストレスを感じながらも奮闘する様子がほほえましくもあり楽しめた。
そしてなんといっても、その世界でのケイトへの一途な愛が素晴らしい。

ただ、本を読んだ限りでは映画で主演しているニコラス・ケイジが多少イメージと違うのだが・・・。
