女子高生が教師の体罰によって殺された。
本書は、その「殺人事件」を正当化する学校・地域の動態を
描写している。

体罰を容認する温床に学校がなっていることは、本書以外の
情報媒体で幾度も指摘されてきたことだ。
本書でも、その体制は糾弾される。
体罰教師は、組織によって守られている。

なぜか。体罰は「愛の鞭」だからだ。それは必須の教育装置なのだ。

しかし本書は、学校を批判するだけではなく、学校の体罰容認体制を
背後で支えている地域をも批判している。
地域の批難の矛先は、教師ではなく死亡した被害者の方に向かった。
地域では、体罰教師の減刑を嘆願する署名運動が拡大していった。
地域は、子どもを殺す学校を望んでいる。

「殺人事件」の真の犯人は学校では??い。地域だ。

昨今、学校を地域に開放することの必要性が叫ばれている。
学校の教育活動に地域の人びとが参画することが計画されている。
そこでは、旧態依然とした学校を、地域が浄化することが期待され
ている。
しかし、本書を読んだ私は、その計画の在り方を考慮せずにはいられ
なかった。

地域は「善」ではないのだ。

学校・教育のこれからの在り方に興味がある人すべてに読んで
ほしい本。

一気に読みました。事件について何も知りませんでしたが
少し前までは、体罰が当たり前になって、教育という名の元に
皆が感覚を麻痺させていた自分の学生時代を思い出しました。

こんな重大事件があった事を全ての親や学校関係者、教育者が
風化して忘れて欲しくないし、本当に学校教育について
考えさせられました。

今年読んだ本の中でも印象に残り、面白かった本ベスト3には入ると思います
