　芥川竜之介と聞けば、日本人なら誰もがムムっとちょっと居住いを正す代表的文豪の一人ですし、その作品も「よし、たまには古典の名作でも鑑賞するか」などと多少気合を入れなければ、なかなか手にすることもないですね。ところがどっこい、この短編集は違います。

　普段、芥川のアの字にも縁の無い私がこれを読んだきっかけは、「蜘蛛の糸」が息子の中学の試験か何かに使われるとかで妻が買ってきたからでした。息子が机の上に放りっぱなしにしているのを見つけ、「どれどれ」と食後にゴロっと横になって何気なく読み始めたら、何とその面白いこと。

　有名な表題作以外に、西郷隆盛のソックリさんが登場する話や魔術を操るお婆の話、また桃太郎を逆説的にヒネった話など、どれもが気軽に楽しめる短編ばかり収められています。ユーモアに富んだ部分もあり、文豪の意外な一面も見られます。

　特に「子供向き」の作品を編纂したものという事ですが、子供といってもこれを楽しめるのは多分高校生以上でしょう。

たくさんの話がありますが全て短いもので
すぐに読めてしまいます。
文章も読みやすく、すらすらと進むのが嬉しい所。
しかも話は単純にどれも面白いものでした！

あとがきでこの本は「子供向け」だと書いてあります。
それは童話や劇？が入っているからだけでなく
その内容でしょうねぇ
「蜘蛛の糸」や「杜子春」…説教、ではないですが
人間の生々しさに訴えかけてるようなものなので。

童話的な話の中にも文学の楽しさはもちろんある！
そういうものを教えるための「子供向け」なのかも。
