強く凛々しい兄ヨナタンと、弱く臆病なクッキー。

その強い兄ヨナタンに憧れる弟クッキーが、いかに勇気を獲得していくか、
本書はその過程を丁寧にゆっくりと描いていきますが、
この物語をオリジナリティあふれるものにしているのは、
その最終舞台設定のアイデアです。

物語が展開される世界を「もう一つ」設定するという（←この部分は分かりにくいでしょうが、本書をお読みになればわかります。）、
普通では思いつかない発想で、
作者は、弟クッキーの「独立」の舞台を用意しています。

弟クッキーが、臆病な少年から勇敢な少年への一歩を踏み出すこの最終場面のアイデアや構成は本当に素晴らしく、
また、描写も秀逸なので、涙なくしては読むことができないでしょう。

読後感が素晴らしい、本当に素敵な物語です。

小学校の時に図書室で借りて読んでから大好きになりました。
年に数回借りて読み直し、卒業してから本屋で購入したほど素晴らしい本です。
それから２０年経ち、私も大人になりましたが、いまだに本は綺麗なままで手許にあり、たまに読み直しています。

良い本なので友達にあげようと探していたのに、本屋では見かけなくて絶版になっているのかと思っていました。

売っているのがわかったので、ぜひ友達や友達の子供にも薦めます。

5.0 out of 5 stars ヨナタン少年の凛々しさ。(映画版ヨナタンは観ない方が…。), 2005/7/17
　弟クッキーを火事から救うために死んだヨナタン。人は死ぬと、生きる喜びにあふれた世界「ナンギヤラ」へ行くのだとヨナタンは語っていた…。
　輪廻のような世界観に驚かされます。ヨナタンに続いてナンギヤラへ行った弟クッキーが主役ですが、心に残るのは高潔で勇気ある兄、ヨナタン・レヨンイェッタ(スウェーデン語の「ライオンハート」)。この金髪の少年に恋した少女読者は多かったろうと思います。
　「あってはならない」恐ろしい敵との戦い。ストーリーが実に巧みに組み込まれていて、最後まではらはらさせられます。そんな冒険活劇でありながら、人物や世界はとても詩情にあふれていて、ファンタジーならではの美しさに満ちています。…不思議で、心に残る物語です。
