日経新聞の書評で絶賛されていて、なぜ子供向けの本なのにと不思議に思い手に取りました。
ニューヨークの動物園のペンギンカップルがなぜ女の子のペンギンのパパになったのか、
きれいな絵でつづられた本です。愛にはいろんな形があることを静かに語りかけています。
この物語は実際にあったことだそうです。大人が読んでも十分に楽しめるそして深く心に
残る本です。

セントラルパークの動物園で暮らすペンギンカップル・シロ（♂）とロイ（♂）が子育てをするという、実話に基づくお話です。
淡々とした語り口が、かえって胸に迫ります。特に出会い篇。絵も淡彩で美しく、とにかく押しつけがましいところがないのでオススメ。トリだろうがヒトだろうが、「誰かとカップルにならなければいけない」「カップル成立したらヒナを持つのがあたりまえ」とは断じて思わない派の私ですが、これだけプロットに説得力があれば全然ＯッＫです。人間の住む世界から動物園へ、その中のペンギン舎へと徐々にズームインしてゆく導入部、逆にカメラが引いてゆくクロージングで、世界の連続性を見せているのも巧いですね。寄り添うポーズを見るだけでも、温もりを感じます。
