類書として Better English Pronunciation と Ship or Sheep? がありますが、どちらもカセットしか用意されていません。Better English Pronunciation は長々とした説明文を読んで練習、という古色蒼然としたものです。逆に Ship or Sheep? は説明は図だけであとはひたすら練習用語句のリストに終始します。

本書は、見開きの左側が説明、左側が実習というこのシリーズのフォーマットを踏襲しています。説明がやや図式的に思えるところもありますが、かえって分かりやすいでしょう。ＣＤ４枚は充実しています。しかもトラックが細かく区切ってあり使いやすいです。（ＣＤの仕様上の限界である９９トラックあるＣＤを初めて見ました。）

一部に「これは発音というよりは会話に関係する内容では?」と思われるユニットもありますが、そういうものをやってマイナスになるわけでもないので問題ないでしょう。

イギリス発音を学びたい人にお薦めです。（ただし、アメリカ発音を扱った教材と併用しないよう注意しましょう。混乱しますから。）

毎朝毎晩10〜15分ぐらい、例文を聞いてそのままそっくりまねをして読み上げる練習を開始して数ヶ月（まま途中休むことはあるものの・・・）、半年に一度会社に来る取引先の英国人との会話が前回会ったときにくらべて非常にスムーズになり、最後は通訳もこなし、練習を始めてから会話力が飛躍的に伸びたことを実感しました。
その例文の何がフォーカスされているのか（ある特定の音？イントネーション？アクセント？）を意識して読むことと、ものにできたと自分で納得するまでしつこく繰り返す、の２点を心がけています。
日常業務の中でも時々英語を話すことがありますが、練習を１週間休むと、てきめんに会話力が落ちるのが分かります・・・

イギリス留学中です。
現地の語学学校の発音の練習でも本書が使用されています。
Section　A(unit 1-20)で個々の音の練習、section B(unit 21-40)で単語単位でのアクセント、section C（unit 41-60)で文章、会話文としての発音の練習ができます。Unitを通しで練習する以外にも（１、21、41）（2,22,42）...と使用する方法も紹介されてます。自分は個々の音の発音、listingに自信がなかったので通しで練習しました。また、本書、CDはSouthern British accentを使用してますが、各所でnorth American accentやイギリス国内のaccent(south east English, north of English)についての解説も書かれており、これらのaccentのlistingにも非常に有用です。Accentがnorth Americaなのかsouth east Englishなのか聞き分ける練習問題もあります。
Listingでの注意点も”improtant for listing"と見出があって発音のみならずlistingの上達にもとても役立ちました。
