裏切られた女の復讐がテーマ。
話は途中やや脱線しながら展開するものの最後あたりからの展開はやはりシェルダン。魅せてくれます。
全部読み終わる前なのに途中で読み返してしまいました。
ページは372Pありますが字が大きいため意外に分量は多くなく、
また英語自体も決して難しくないので
初めてシェルダンを読む人に丁度いい本だと思います。

シェルダン作品のなかでは比較的分量が少ないので、文字を大きく文章間隔を開けて？ペーパーバックボリュームに合うよう調整済み。よってちょっと「薄味」な感じはあるのですが、いつもどおりの展開でシェルダン好きなら楽しめます。女好き、中東和平に貢献の大統領というとクリントンがモデルでしょうか。勘の良いひとなら最後は読めそうかな？

そんなに長くなく読みやすい物語。
中心となる登場人物は３人。
結婚直前に捨てられた女性レスリー、
上院議員の娘を選んだ男性オリバー、
海外特派員志望の女性ダナ。

この３人を含めた主な登場人物達は、
みな自分の人生にそれぞれプランを持ち
己の野望（欲望）を満たすために行動する。

物語の終盤で３人はそれぞれ大きな選択を迫られる。
何を選び、どう行動するか。
そこですべての明暗が分かれた。

まるでオセロのように
最後の決断が結末を大きく変えていく。
どんでん返しというよりも、納得のいく結末。
復讐劇というより因果応報の物語。
幸運は偶然の結果では決してない。
