パチ―ノのシェ―クスピアに対する少年のような憧れがひしひしと伝わってくるドキュメンタリー風映画。押しつけがましさは微塵もなく、ねえ、みんな僕はシェ―クスピアが好きなんだ、みんなも仲間になりなよ、というアプローチが心理的バリアをぐぐっと引き下げる。集まった俳優たちも必ずしもシェ―クスピアを熟読玩味しているわけでもなく、かなり手探り状態でああだこうだとやりあっているのが意外でもあり、親近感も増す。いちばんの見所はパチーノの街頭突撃インタビュー。一般人にも気さくに話しかけるパチーノの姿には、マフィアの親分的イメージとは違う新鮮味を感じる。この映画をみて、劇中途切れ途切れに演じられるリチャード三世のフルバージョンが見たくなった。完全にパチーノマジックに魅せられたようだ。

どこまでフィクションなのかは分からないが（もしかしたら全部かも？）、シェイクスピアに親しみのない観客と一緒に、やはりシェイクスピアとは微妙に距離のあるアメリカの役者が、彼の作品をどう捉えたら良いのかを考える映画。あの過剰な演技のアル・パチーノは、演劇的作品にはぴったりだということが分かる。実際に撮影した映画の部分も出てくるのだが、これはフルバージョンがあるのだろうか？　あれば是非見てみたい。
映画や演劇そのものの楽しさが伝わってくるのが良い。

アル・パチーノの思いがみなぎり、そのあまりの熱さにこちらがびっくり！ここまでの強い思いをどう受け止められるか・・・。シェークスピアへの対応というのか知識の差を感じさせられる。知識の差は、欧米と日本、もそうだけど、英米にもあるのだな、というのをつくづく感じさせられます。英米の違いなどを考えている人にもおすすめです。
