時代の設定や当時の風景は古いものですが、むしろ懐かしさを感じるぐらいに
適度なもので、かえって古道具屋の店の雰囲気とピッタリ合っていて
違和感無く見ることが出来ます。
夏目雅子さんは、この作品の２年後に帰らぬ人になりますが、
しっかりと役にはまった最高の演技を見ることが出来ます。
銀色の傘をさし猫を抱いて時代屋を訪れるシーンは、すごく可愛く愛らしい。
共演する俳優陣も個性派揃いで、森崎東監督の手腕も光ります。
下町の現実的人情味ある風景に、謎の家出を繰り返す真弓のミステリアスな行動が、
アンバランスなのに何故か面白い。
ラストシーンは、とても嬉しくなりホッとしてしまいます。
映画の舞台裏を案内してくれる特典映像は必見です。

昭和50年代、古きよき時代の東京下町の商店街を背景に繰り広げられる、屈折した男女の愛の展覧会のような作品。その変わった風合いの故に原作は直木賞を受賞した。それを映画化したのが本編であるが、評判になった小説を映画化して原作を上回る名品に仕立て上げる至難の業に、この映画はみごとに成功している。
主役の真弓は若くして逝った夏目雅子が演じているが、これは、まさに夏目雅子の白鳥の歌である。その光り輝く美しさ、気品ある華やかさ、愛らしさ。夏目の大胆・鮮烈な演技と渡瀬の表面淡々としながらも愛の苦悩あふれる迫真の演技が本編最大の見所であろう。
助演者もそれぞれに好演で、津川、中山、平田などさすがと思わせる。二役としての夏目の美郷も可憐さがよくでている。
原作は短編に近い短さで、主人公はじめ主要人物も薄墨色の背景のなかに沈んでいる。人物も映画ほどに魅力的ではない。それに対し、本編は、人物の一人一人にスポットライトをあて、鮮やかに背景のなかに浮かび上がらせた。どの人物も魅力的である。原作を超える名品という所以である。夏目雅子の追悼作品という意味からも是非一度ご覧いただきたい。
