2004年7月~9月、フジテレビ系列にて放送された、森村誠一原作の社会派ミステリー「人間の証明」を映像商品化。1977年に松田優作、岡田茉莉子出演で映画化された「人間の証明」のドラマ版。今作では竹野内豊が、主人公である刑事役を熱演する。

岡田茉莉子と松田優作の映画版も秀作で、戦争の招いた残酷な現実に胸が痛くなりましたが、正直「棟居は優作でなくてもいいんじゃない？」という感覚が当時からありました。しかし、竹野内豊の多少線の細めな棟居は非常にしっくりきました。そして何より素晴らしかったのは、かたや夫、かたや愛人のなさぬ仲でありながらも一人の女性を愛する、國村隼と風間杜夫が次第に心を通わせていく様でした。その果てに待つ哀しい結末に見せるそれぞれの表情は、よく出来た本作の中でも演出を超えた演技の妙があります。近年稀なテレビドラマであったと思います。テーマの重さに食わず嫌いはせず、是非観てほしい一作です。

森村誠一の人間の証明及び棟居シリーズの読者として、いままでのテレビの棟居弘一良に違和感を感じずにはいられなかった。しかしこの人間の証明の竹野内豊さんは、まさに棟居弘一良だと思いました。この棟居の最終回は特に光っていると思います。

DVD-BOXで一気に見てとても素晴らしく、驚きました。ドラマの枠を超えていると思います。
何度か見た後に原作も初めて読んでみましたが、原作の骨組みを大事に作ってあることが
よくわかりました。
刑事もの、サスペンスものは苦手だったのが、棟居刑事の静かなモノローグに引き込まれ、
人間ドラマにひきつけられ、音楽もとても美しく効果的でした。
映画よりも長い時間にわたり、濃密な物語を見せてもらえて、観客として幸せに思います。
