   城健三朗はカツシンの実兄・若山富三郎の大映時代の芸名。ここでは文字通りの兄弟対決を堪能することができるが、修羅のごとき行いがもたらすその凄絶さは、やがて一種の虚無感をも生むことになる。監督はカツシンの出世作であり『座頭市』の前哨戦でもある『不知火検校』の森一生。彼は続編を登板することも多かった名匠で、その安定した技量をフルに発揮して各作品をシリーズ化に結びつけることにかけても達人であった。（的田也寸志）

事前に期待するより、相当テンションの低い作品。
若山富三郎が「子連れ狼」のように大暴れすることは全くなく、兄弟の会話もどこか淡々としている。

むしろ注目したいのは終わり方。
ほぼ１００％座頭市は、市が旅に出立するところで終わるが、これはそうでない稀少な例。

　タイトルどおり前作の続編なので、1作目を見てからの方が楽しめます。（見てなくても完結した話なので理解はできますが。）勝新と実兄・城健三郎（若山富三郎）の競演は二人とも味のある役者なので僕は結構楽しめたけど、期待が大きかった時代劇ファンにとっては、確かに絡みが短くて殺陣も物足りなかったかも。ちょっと説明的な台詞が多く強引な展開の脚本なので、その分の星を減点しました。

3.0 out of 5 stars 座頭市シリーズ全体を楽しみたい人のための作品, 2009/4/26
座頭市シリーズの第２弾。白黒で短い映画です。第１作で座頭市が心ならずも殺した男の墓参りが一つの要素になっており、また第３作の新・座頭市物語では、この作品に登場する堪兵衛の弟が重要な役柄で登場するなど、シリーズ全体を楽しむ人には重要な作品。若山富三郎が城健三朗の芸名で出演していますが、片腕の役柄で、勝新太郎との兄弟対決は迫力はありますが、片腕のため若山の殺陣も居合いのような感じになっています。ちなみに兄弟対決は後の座頭市千両首でも楽しめ（若山は別の役で登場）、そちらの方が上でしょう。
