「青春ドラマ」とありますが、これは巧妙な老人福祉問題を取り上げた社会派ドラマです。
さぶとかすみちゃんとの恋愛を中心にさぶのおかあさん（田中絹代）や海ちゃんのお父さん（大滝秀治）の若き日の人生とダブラせて、若人のいづれ来る「老い」と、老人への接すべき想いを伝えています。
半妻さんのお母さん想いを冷ややかに笑う利夫と、海ちゃんを想う利夫をどのように貴方の目で見るかがこのドラマのポイントです。
しかも、このドラマを「青春ドラマ」と見せるテクニックのすごさ。
さすが倉本聰････というしかない。
18歳で観たドラマ。自分も50歳に近づく歳になってもこのドラマの「老い」を忘れたことがありません。
