悪大名「夕里弾正」が根来忍者を雇って、織田信長の命を狙う「根来編」。その最大の魅力は、これまで２編にない激しいまでの斬り合いと大怪獣との戦いです。赤影、白影、青影までもが、根来忍者をバッサバッサ容赦なしに切り倒します。その過程にはユーモアはあまりなく、正しく激闘編に相応しい内容となっています。
確か当時、どこかのＰＴＡが、テレビで多くの人が死ぬ俗悪番組調査で、赤影再放送がワースト１位になっていたニュースを思い出しました。大人は（母親は）、赤影の面白さなど分かってくれないもんだと子ども心に思ったもんです。今回、ＤＶＤで見直すと確かにたくさん斬られてますね。それが、時代劇の醍醐味だと思うのですが…
今編の目玉は、やはりカブトムシ怪獣アゴンとムカデ怪獣ドグマの死闘でしょう。それを操る二人のくのいち風葉と矢尻のセクシーさも必見ですね(^_-)
残念ながらこの根来編ＤＶＤが、一番画質が悪いです。おそらく、保存の状態が影響したものと思われますが、赤影のスカーフの赤色がピンクに見えたり、妙な雑音が聞かれる部分もあります。
しかしながら、そんなこと以上に魅力的な「根来編」です。これでもかと襲いかかる根来衆と大怪獣に立ち向かう赤影たちを応援しましょう！！

根来篇は、悪代官 夕里弾正を討つべく京都を目指す織田信長を赤影たちが護衛する物語で、赤影らを迎え討たんとする根来十三忍との戦いが繰り広げられる。13話で13人の敵を倒すため、やや駆け足的な印象も受けるが、それだけにバラエティに富んだ忍者や怪物が登場する。中でも赤影の怪獣といえば「ああ、あれね」というくらい有名なカブトムシのアゴンと大ムカデのドグマの二匹が登場。それにくのいち同士の手柄争いを絡めた物語は本シリーズ有数の見せ場だ。そのほかの根来衆と赤影たちとの戦いは見てのお楽しみだが、さらに根来篇は信長護衛の兵士たちと赤影たちとの衝突や伊賀忍者の応援など今までにないエピソードが見るものをひきつける。

仮面の忍者赤影の第３部作品である。第１部、第２部の敵、天津敏演じる甲賀幻妖斉から、東映時代劇の名優、原健策演じる暗闇鬼堂率いる根来１３忍との戦いである。今回の特徴は敵として怪獣が多く出てくることだろう。セクシーな女忍者も登場する。１．２作と違い、赤影達は多くの怪獣と戦はなければいけないため、根来１３忍とのコミカルで人間的な絡みは少ない。斬り合いが多いのも特徴の一つである。また、織田信長の家来との確執なども他の作品には見られないものだ。赤影４部作はファンにより評価が別れるところだろうが、是非全作そろえて見ていただきたい。そうすればいろいろ発見がある。黄門様の里見浩太郎の若き勇姿、全４作の中でいろいろな役を演じる役者さん（くぐつ陣内、黒影）（夕里弾正、魔風雷丸）まだまだあるが、発見するのも面白い。また第１部から４部に至る流れの中で、赤影役の坂口祐三郎さんが、あまりにハードな撮影スケジュールのため見る見る痩せていくのわかるだろうか。今や坂口、牧（白影）両氏もこの世の人ではない。坂口氏は晩年まで赤影の新作の映像化に意欲的だったと聞く。お二人の御霊に哀悼の意を表したい。
