   殺人容疑で逮捕された男が、高名な弁護士に依頼する。だが高額の弁護料が払えず獄死した。その妹が復讐のため弁護士に近づき、弁護士の愛人が殺人事件に巻き込まれると、事件のカギを握って弁護士に迫る。

   松本清張原作のサスペンス小説、2度目の映画化作品。1965年の山田洋次監督、倍賞千恵子主演版では、社会派サスペンスの色合いが濃かったが、こちらは三浦友和を狂言回しの新聞記者に起用し、メロドラマ的な要素を強めている。注目すべきは山口百恵の演技で、ヒロインになりきった凄絶な姿は当時のファンを驚かせた。女優百恵の代表作のひとつといえるだろう。兄を関口宏、弁護士を三國連太郎が演じている。弁護士と愛人の関係が、純愛風に描かれている点も、さすが百恵＆友和による正月映画という感じだが、作品のできもしっかりしている。（アルジオン北村）

　松本清張の原作を映画化したいと思った監督は多かったであろう。最初に映画化したのは松竹の救世主、山田洋次である。脚本は橋本忍。主人公柳田桐子は倍賞智恵子、復讐される弁護士は滝沢修。残酷な結末。妥協しない主人公。「こいつ人間か」と思わせるくらい。
　その後、この作品が登場。純情女優が成熟した女性に変身する姿は輝くばかり。彼女は天才であることをしめした。ゾックとさせた。しかし、脚本が甘かった。ラストシーンは、彼女の良さをつぶした。悔しい。
　そのご、安田成美と田村高廣コンビの作品が出た。どちらも新幹線にのせて九州から東京まですっ飛ばしている。
　山田洋次は、山陽本線、東海道本線に主人公を乗せている。切実さと非情な復讐鬼に変身させる必然性を観客に納得させるためには、時代考証は必用であった。
　『霧の旗』を観るときには比較すべき作品があることを知っておくべきである。でも、山口百恵は天才である。

封切り当時、お子様特撮映画「惑星大戦争」を目的に劇場に行き、同時上映作品が本作でした。山口百恵、三浦友和を主演としたこの作品は一応アイドル映画としての位置づけだったと思います（同時上映作品からして・・）。

が、しかし、内容は松本清張の原作ということもあり、いたって硬派。お子様映画目的の小学生の観るものではありませんでした。

兄の復讐（やや的外れな）の為に、三國連太郎さん演じる弁護士を罠にかけるヒロインを山口百恵さんが好演し、良質の人間ドラマとなっております。

公開時は内容が良く分からず百恵ちゃんのシーン観ただけっう感じでしたが、今この映画を観ると、内容が濃い話だったんだなと、気づかされました。お兄さんのカタキだった弁護士の愛人に成るなんてすごい話何だろうと今は思います・・・アイドル百恵ちゃんですので、激しいラブシーンが無いのが、たまにキズですね！！
百恵ちゃん映画の中で一番好きでは無かったんですが、大人に成ってから観た今は、好きに成りました。
