祖父の時代、ルーンハイムの人々は異種族への対応で対立し、受容派の王国と拒絶派の帝国に分かれて全面戦争に至った。休戦から10年、帝国の侵略により王国は危機に瀕する。人質交換により王国で育った帝国の皇子、または王国の王女のいずれかを主人公とし、王国の再興と悪の撃滅を目指します。

サモンナイトシリーズ10周年作品ながら、ジャンルをシミュレーションRPGからオーソドックスRPGへ変更。物語の舞台も一新されました。キャラ重視、巻き込み型の展開の典型的なJRPGで、DSながらフルボイス、ムービーは少々。ボイスオフ、メッセージ速度変更、R+Aでスキップ可能、既読チェックなし。下画面メイン、上画面マップ。キャラ2D、マップ3D。基本は歩き、Bで駆け足。マップの絵は素朴で、扉の開閉なし。イベントでは2Dの大きなキャラ絵が前面に重なり、表情をよく伝えます。

戦闘は行動順が回ったキャラ毎にコマンド入力する方式。パーティー10人から4人を選ぶ。戦闘中の入替が可能。戦闘中の4人が戦闘不能＝ゲームオーバー。エンカウント率は高い。装備品は現地調達可能で買物は回復アイテムが重要。ボス戦は長引きがちなので、攻略法の発見が大切。魔法は、宝箱から入手する召喚プレートを成長させ装備すれば誰でも使用可。ただし魔力依存なので注意。補助魔法とスキルアップ効果はとても有用。夜の会話などで仲間の絆を深めておくと、主人公はゲージ蓄積時に高威力の協力技を使えます。

セーブは3つ（＋中断セーブ）。各地の竜のうろこでセーブ可能。赤いうろこの既訪問地への移動機能、ボス前に多い青いうろこの回復機能は便利。2周目引継ぎ項目は、お金、消費アイテム、召喚プレート、議会（本作独特のクエスト進行システム）の進行状況など。クリア時間の目安は、ボイスのON/OFFなどにもより20〜40時間。サモンナイトシリーズは初めてでしたが、楽しめました。

サモンナイトシリーズとしては、初心者向けでとっつきやすい作品だ。
前作までのシリーズより、より洗練されている。
感じとしては、テイルズシリーズと無限のフロンティア スーパーロボット大戦OGサーガを足したようなゲーム構成だ。
そのためか、タクティクス系の戦略性を重視したシュミレーションというよりは、純粋なＲＰＧに近い。
前作のＤＳ版サモンナイトと思って買うとたぶん違和感があると思う。
キャラクターのおしゃべりや萌え要素、誰でもお手軽に楽しめるという点では、評価は高い。
硬派なタクティスクユーザーは買わないほうが良いかも。

このシリーズはストーリーやBGMの魅力の無さには目を瞑りますが、肝心のバトルが面白くない

ターンは素早い敵・味方キャラ毎に順番に回ってくるシステムですが、行動順番も敵の残りHPゲージも表示してくれない為、プレイヤーが戦略的にコマンドを実行してる感が全くない

ゲージをためて使える仲間との協力技が強く敵を一掃出来る爽快さはあるが、主人公の順番が来ないと使えないので(余程のLV差がないと大抵敵が先に行動するのでそれが一通り終わるまで待つ感じ)使い勝手は悪い

議会クエストもおつかい同然で報酬も大して良くない。三回ある選択肢から正解を選ばないとクエスト開始出来ないのも面倒なだけ(不正解ならわざわざリセットするハメに)

召喚獣が覚えるスキルをマナストーンを使う事で強化出来、バトルが楽になるのは良かったと思うが、マナストーンは数に限りがあり、自由に付け外し出来ないので勿体無くて結局終盤まで使いませんでした

良い所は地図が上画面に表示されるので迷う事がない、中断セーブ可、会話早送り可、ボスが適度に強い事くらいか(とはいえ、準備さえしっかりすれば特に戦略を考えなくてもどうにかなるが)

32時間でクリア(久々にラスボスの残りHP計算しながら戦ったなぁ〜)
