　以前、他社より「2in1」シリーズにて「地球最後の男」とのカップリングで販売されておりましたが、ようやく単品での販売となりました。2in1シリーズは、既に絶版となっており、一時期高額なプレミアが付いていましたが、今回の販売で、古き良き時代の優良なSF映画をいつでも鑑賞出来る事が出来、大変嬉しい限りです。
　流星の影響で、殆どの人類が突然失明した世界でのパニックを描きながらも、更に怪獣映画の要素も含まれているという、かなりお得な内容です。「ゾンビ」「２８日後」「ブラインドネス」「ハプニング」等のホラー、パニック映画に通じる所があるのではないでしょうか。欲を言えば、吹き替えを入れて欲しかったです。

昭和30年代に映画化されたＳＦ小説の秀作、
子供の頃にＴＶの洋画劇場の吹き替え版を観て以来になる。

原作小説では油を採るために家畜化されていたトリフィドだが、流星群を目撃した人類が盲目になり、
凶暴化したトリフィドの恐怖に晒されるという内容だった、
この映画版では流星によって地球外から飛来した謎の生物という設定に変えられていたと思う。

目の手術の為に偶然流星を観るのを免れた主人公が、生き残った人たちを保護しながらトリフィドに立ち向かう。

冒頭で夜空に盛んに降り注ぐ色鮮やかな流星と、窪地に大量に群生したトリフィドのシーンなどが印象に残る。
