『226』以降、20年程にわたり、作曲家・千住 明の才能に注目して、その活動を注視しているのだが、個人的には、千住氏の本領というのは、何といっても大規模の管弦楽作品にあると思う。

Warsaw Philharmonic Orchestra and Chorus（Filharmonia Narodowa）を起用して録音された今回の作品は正にそうした楽器編成の作品であるが、実際、こうして発売されたCDを聴いてみると、千住 明という作曲家の魅力が詰め込まれた作品ということができる。

こうした正統派の映画音楽というのは――Hans Zimmer等の作曲家の活躍に圧されて――今日においては、ハリウッドでも随分と希少なものになりはじめているが、『鋼の錬金術師』という作品のために千住しが創造した音楽は、そうした伝統的な職人芸術を高度のレベルで達成した作品ということができるだろう。

作品の色調は、今回と同様の演奏陣を起用した『風林火山』につづいて、鬱々とした内省的な重さと暗さを湛えたものであるが、同時に、そこには、悲劇と暗闇のただなかで天を仰ぎ見るような、純粋な生命の息づきを実感することができるものでもある。

大島 ミチルの『鋼の錬金術師』が、悲劇的な色調に抒情的な旋律美と開放的な力強さを組み合わせて成功したものであるとすれば、千住 明の『鋼の錬金術師』は、基調となる悲劇性を正面からひきうけ、そこに真摯な内省的な音楽を創造して成功した作品といえるだろう。

いずれにしても、作曲家・千住 明の代表作となる記念碑的な作品といえるだろう。

1990年代は、多数の安手のTVドラマの音楽を担当して、深刻な停滞状態に陥った千住しであるが、今回の作品を鑑賞する限り、完全に復調したといえるだろう。

早売りで購入し、早速鑑賞。
全体的に、重々しく悲壮感が漂う曲が多いです。

まず一曲目、コーラスを使用したメインテーマの壮大さ、悲愴さには圧倒されます。
そしてメインテーマの変奏ともいえる「Lullaby of Resembool」「Trisha's Lullaby」、
管弦・打楽器を存分に使用した「Clash of the Alchemists」、
19話にてアルがホークアイをかばう時に流れていた「Beyond the Walls」など、
氏の持ち味である重厚な音楽がこれでもかと収録されています。

前作の大島ミチルの音楽とはまた違った、氏の「鋼の錬金術師」です。


欠点としては、全ての曲が重厚すぎて、すぐにお腹一杯になってしまうところでしょうか。

第1期、第2期のＯＰ，ＥＤ曲は、テレビバージョンの短いものが入っています。
本来なら、箸休め的存在になるはずですが、実際には千住明ワールドが中断されてしまって、違和感がありました。
曲全体は重たいです。大島氏のようなチャイコフスキー的繊細な美しさはありませんが、管弦楽のよさを堪能できるサントラです。

なお、Trisha's Lullaby（トリシャの子守唄）とLapis Philosophorum（賢者の石）の歌詞はラテン語です。
日本語に翻訳したものは入っていません。
歌自体は、アニメ本編でもたびたび登場する曲で、単体で聞くと、宗教学的な美しさを併せ持つ名曲です。
