エレファントカシマシ、EMI時代のアルバムからの自選作品集。胎動記と名付けられた、世間的に見れば潜伏期間だった時期の激動の楽曲が一堂に会している。

一貫していた初期と比べ、サウンドも作り方も様々な変化をしてきたこの頃の作品群。起死回生のロックアルバム「good morning」、小林武史と組んだポップで穏やかな「ライフ」、バンドのエネルギーを取り戻した「DEAD OR ALIVE」「俺の道」、エレカシの文学ロックで闇と光を描いたような「扉」と「風」、それらを乗り越えた先に辿り着いた「町を見下ろす丘」。
そんな多種多様なアルバムの曲が、宮本浩次自らの選曲・曲順の模索によって、ひとつの作品として混在している。言わば、同発3作品中最も混沌としたベスト盤色の強いアルバム。そういう意味でも非常におもしろい作品である。


御承知の事とは思いますけども、低迷していたセールスとは裏腹に、作品クオリティは抜群に素晴らしいものばかり。相変わらずの迫力の凄さと独自性の高さ。また情緒豊かな表現力、加えて達観・終末観。それを聞かせるバンドの実力など、経験値・説得力の上昇も如実に表れていると思う。
特にラスト3曲「シグナル」「武蔵野」「I don't know たゆまずに」の流れは、この作品を総括し現在へ繋がってゆく最高の大団円になっている。

今のエレカシの活躍を裏付ける文句なしの傑作集。伊達や酔狂じゃねぇ日本のロックの重要な歴史がここに刻まれている。

エレカシの東芝EMI時代の自選作品集。

売れた後、打ち込みに走ったり、ソロに近くなったり、またバンド・サウンドに戻ったりしてまた契約を切られるまでの時期。

いろいろあったけど続けていてくれてよかった。

エレカシ流ラップ「ガストロンジャー」、森鴎外を歌った渋い曲「歴史」、弾き語りの美しいバラード「風」、メロディアスな「あなたのやさしさをオレは何に例えよう」、ポップな「化ケモノ青年」、死刑宣告される「コール アンド レスポンス」、アップテンポな「地元のダンナ」、荒々しい「ハロー人生!!」、まさしく戦いの歌だ「パワー・イン・ザ・ワールド」、快速ビートの「今をかきならせ」、どたまがぶっ飛ぶ「生命賛歌」、ドラマの主題歌になった「so many people」が好きだな。
