そのスキャンダラスな死から30年以上たつ今なお、
映画ファンから映像マニアまで魅了し続ける稀代の映画監督、ピエル・パオロ・パゾリーニ。
フェリーニが才能を見出し、ベルトルッチが助監督を務め、
日本では1999年の「パゾリーニ映画祭」開催にあたり大島渚が実行委員長を引き受けたという、
彼の傑作群が、いま大復活を遂げる!

◆STORY
父親のトトと息子のニネットは街へ行くため郊外の道を歩いていた。
途中、不思議なカラスが二人を呼びとめ、そのまま合流する。
おしゃべりだが左翼のインテリでもある彼は、
大昔、聖フランチェスコの使いとして鳥たちに神の福音を伝えた修道士チチッロの話を聞かせる。
なおも歩き続ける二人は様々な出来事に遭遇していき…。


『パゾリーニの鳥』の邦題でビデオリリースされたこともある本作。
往年の人気喜劇俳優トトと、パゾリーニ映画の常連ニネット・ダヴォリがそのままの役名で主演。
パゾリーニの長編としては、もっともコミカルな味わいの一作。

◆ピエル・パオロ・パゾリーニ
1922年3月5日イタリア・ボローニャ出身。
詩人、小説家として名声を得たのち、1961年「アッカートネ」で監督デビュー。
「奇跡の丘」(1964年)でヴェネチア映画祭カソリック映画事務局賞を受賞。他受賞作多数。
1975年11月2日、「ソドムの市」エキストラ役で同性愛関係にあった少年により惨殺された。

以前シネフィルから発売されたときに購入し、大好きになったパゾリーニの過渡期的作品です。ビデオレンタル全盛時代には「パゾリーニの鳥」と題された日本未公開作ですが、「アッカトーネ」「奇跡の丘」のリアリズムから「アポロンの地獄」「テオレマ」の神憑り的傑作の中間に位置し、未見の人には「パゾリーニってこんなのも作ってたの？」と思わせる、パゾリーニ風のコメディです。イタリアのベテラン喜劇俳優トトとパゾリーニの分身とも言える”当時素人同然の”ニネット・ダヴォリの異色コンビに、しゃべる（！）カラスが加わり、現代と過去が交錯する摩訶不思議な作品です。オープニングのキャスト・スタッフ名がそのまま歌詞になっているエンニオ・モリコーネの音楽も秀逸です！
