ART-SCHOOL2年半ぶりのニュー・アルバム。
全13曲だが一曲一曲の尺は長くない。割とサクッと聴ける。聴きやすさでは随一かもしれない。
そしてメランコリックなギターロックチューンが殆どでもある。

「左ききのキキ」では原点回帰ともいえるガレージ色を強調し
「ILLMATIC BABY」ではエレクトロでダンサブルな雰囲気も取り入れた新機軸の作品として、
作品ごとに明確な目的があった訳ですが
この「14Souls」はそもそも目的意識がないように聴こえるというか、
言ってしまうといつも通りのART、ARTっぽいARTを体現しているというか
安定したソングライティングを聴かせるアルバムなのかなあ、と。
事実一曲ごとの質は高く、クロマニヨンズやスピッツの領域に入ってきたのかなとも感じた。
これで完成形というか。

海外でレコーディングを刊行しいつもとは違う趣きを見せた「PARADISE LOST」や
光やささいな幸せを歌うことを受け入れた変化作の「Flora」と比べると
アルバム自体のカタルシスは高くないし、新鮮味も薄い。メロディもそこまでの決め手はない。
しかし、とはいったものの別に完成度が低いアルバムという訳でもない。
木下理樹が作るメロディはどこから切ってもおいしいし、バンドの演奏もいつもながらの緊張感が宿っている。
比較すれば物足りないが、比較しなければ物足りる。そういうアルバムだと思います。


ただ、ここまで一貫した世界観で持ってアルバム1枚聴かせられると、逆にある種の覚悟を感じるというか
ドロドロのままで進む決意を固めたような印象も受ける。「14Souls」、個人的には受け入れたい。

アートスクールに出会ったのはLOVE HATEをリリースした直後の上記のアルバムでした。 その頃の私は病気を患い入院し病室で聴いていて、私を支えてくれていた音楽はTHE VINES、エリオットスミス、シガーロスでした。 当時見舞いに来てくれた友達が邦楽にもお勧めのバンドが居るよとアートスクールのLOVE HATEを貸してくれたのが初めての彼等との出会いでした。その時の衝撃といったら…。邦楽のアーティストにもこんなに綺麗な世界をさらけ出して奏でているバンドが居るんだと知り大変嬉しかったです。売れるてる=良い音楽には必ずしも直結はしないと思います。 ただこんな綺麗事は私達リスナーにしか言えないエゴなのでしょう…。アーティスト側は生き残ってゆく為にある程度の認知やお金も必要で常に何かしらの変化も見えないところで強いられ…。 正直LOVE HATE後の彼等の音はそこまでのめり込めず…期待し気にはなるので試聴はするのですが購入までには至らず…。 しかし今回試聴後、即購入しました。 LOVEHATEから何年振りの事でしょう…。 凄い一曲、一曲が丁寧に作り込まれているのが伝わってきました。彼等がこれからも甘美な音楽を奏でていってくれますように。 クラブスヌーザーのライブで観て以来ライブには行ってなかったのですが今回のライブには足を運びたい、生で聴きたい観たいと思いました。 このアルバムは素敵な音の集合体だと思います。私以外にも心に何かしら響く、届く曲が貴方にもありますように切に願います。 木下理樹さん、アートスクールの現メンバーの面々素敵な音楽をありがとうございます。 長文大変失礼致しました。

どの曲もとても聴き心地が良く何回も聴きたくなります。今作は細かく丁寧な音作りだなあと感じますし出来としては素晴らしいです。 ただ、初期アートにあった「胸が締め付けられるような」ものがもっといい感じで表現されたらなあという感じは拭い去れません。正直、錠剤がどうのこうのという歌詞をよく使ってますが、なんか稚拙さが感じられ、あっという間に子供の音楽っぽくなってしまうので私的には幻滅します。 まあでも、私はリッキーワールドが好きですし、変わらず健在ですから星4.3くらいで。
