'70年代以降のフュージョン・シーンを最前線で牽引してきたスタジオミュージシャンの
つわもの五人衆が集って収録したまさに夢のアルバム。

今年71歳!を迎えるMainieriとBernhardt、そして還暦を迎えるSpinozzaがそれぞれ年輪を
感じさせるまろやかなタッチで極上のメロディーを奏でています。それを阿吽の呼吸で
支える、64歳Gaddと63歳Levinの無敵のリズムセクション。
老練な彼らの生み出す自然体のトータルサウンドは、日常の喧騒に晒され疲弊している
我々現代人に大いなるリラクゼーションを与えてくれます。

それにしても、なんと贅沢なセッションなのでしょう。
こうしてレビューを書けることを、とても幸せに思います。
「More L'Image」のリリースをすでに期待してしまうのは決して小生だけでないかと。
L'Imageの再来を念じて止みません。

（この五人衆が'80年に競演して収録したBernhardtの代表作「Manhattan Update」と
本作品とを聴き比べると、29年間の年輪差を再発見できるかもしれません）

リマージュは７０年代後半から８０年代前半ぐらいまでのニューヨーク型フュージョンの腕利きミュージシャンによるショーケースのような作品といえる。ガッド、レビン、マイニエリは現在でも第一線で幅広い活躍をしているので音楽通ならば最近のジャズやロックの作品からも素晴らしい演奏を聴く事ができることは、既にご存知であろう。本作品で特に注目するべきする点としては、やはりスピノザ、バーンハートの参加であり嬉しい限りである。スピノザのA&Mからのリーダーアルバムは本当に素晴らしいものであったし、日本側の企画でも１枚（廃盤、再発して欲しい）素晴らしいアルバムを残している。またkingレコードからのセッションぽいデビットマシューズ編曲の音楽にも数多く参加しており、ジェームステーラーを始めとして歌もののプロデューサーとしても活躍した腕も立ち、且つ趣味の良いギタリストだ。ウォーレンバーンハートはマイニエリの親友でDMPやアリスタから相当数アルバムを出しておりいずれも優れたものである。地味だがピアノの腕前も素晴らしく作曲面でも極めて優れた才能を持っている。この２名の演奏が聴ける事だけでもマニア等には感激ものではないだろうか。曲目は昔の彼らの曲の再演も多いが、ごつごつ感が消え成熟した演奏となっており、ガッドもブラシワークが目立っているが、こんなにブラシをフュージョン的音楽で多用した事は今までは無かったのではないだろうか。まあ今回の成熟した演奏と、彼らが若いときの熱い演奏と比べてどっちが好きかというのは個人の嗜好によるところと言えるが、若い人たちにもぜひ聴いてもらいたい音楽であるのは確かだ。叶わぬ事だが、このメンバーにブレッカー兄弟が入れば、現在の様に各人が年を重ねていても凄い音楽が出来そうな気がしてならない。

年間、何枚の新譜が発表されるかわかりませんが、音楽暦を重ねるに従って、年々、すごいと思えるアルバムが減っていく気がしてしまいます。
そんな中、出会ったのがこのアルバム。ｖｉｂのマイクマイニエリ、ｄｒにスティーブガッド、ｂにトニーレヴィン、ｐにウォーレーンバーンハート、ｇにデビッドスピノザという、その昔のフュージョン界をリードしていた面々。演っているのもフュージョンというのがピッタリくる音ですが、演奏ははっきり言って枯れています。ただ、彼らの熱さは、ずんずん伝わってきます。曲も、まだ暑いこの季節にちょうど良い、涼風を呼ぶもの。
いやあ、本当、凄いアルバムです。現時点で、今年の新譜のＮＯ１です。
しかし、こういうのを聞くと、レヴィンのＫＣ復帰はないだろうなあと思ってしまいます。
