ジェフ・テイトは元々メタル畑の人間ではないので、彼が中心になれば
ミドル〜スロー・テンポばっかの作風になるのも仕方あるまい。メロディの
質感も「Q2K」からそれほど変わっていないのだが、楽曲の展開に雄大さが
戻ってきていて、久々に自分の中でバイアスをかけなくても「良い」と
言える作品になっている。ツイン・ギターも結構入っいて、結構メタリック。
ジェフの歌をじっくりと味わう作品。

事前予告でかなり期待をしたせいか、前作同様、最初はアラッ?って感じだったが、これまた前作同様、聴き込めば、これも有りだなと評価します。
やはり、OP1が凄すぎて、そのレベルをまたいつかは、と思うんだよな。
前作から良くなってきてると思うので、次に再度、傑作を期待したいです。
しょーもない最近の音に合わせず、クィーンズらしさ全快で、カッコイー且つパワーも哀愁も有りつつを。

　前作『Operation:Mindcrime II』から3年。カヴァー・アルバムを挟んでの第10作。「アメリカは何故戦い続けるのか」―「戦争」をテーマにしたコンセプト・アルバムである。日本の発売日は4月8日だが、本国では既に3月31日に発売済み。日本盤ボーナスは無く、曲数は米盤と同じ。

　12曲中8曲を、プロデューサーのJason Slaterと、ヴォーカルのGeoff Tateで書いている。前作「O:M II」と同じ顔ぶれなので、メロディー・ラインはかなり近い。戦争と言っても、兵士1人1人の心情に焦点を当てた「ヒューマニズム」を問う作品であるため、思ったほどハード曲は多くない。リーダー・トラックは、兵士の語りから始まるミディアム曲「If I Were King」。

　アコースティック・ギターを使う曲があるのも特徴で、この辺りは『Empire』を思わせる。「ドライになった『Empire』」と言えばある程度当たっているか。Chris DeGarmoを呼び戻した所で、彼ががもうメタル曲を書かなくなってしまった（『Tribe』参照）ため、今の彼らにはこれがベストの体制なんだろう。ただ、全盛期に比べると印象に残るメロディーが少ないのは事実で、星取り表はこんなもん。

　これが今の彼らが出したい音であるなら、もう日本盤は出さなくて良いのでは。シングル・リリースがないので、日本盤ボーナスに入れる曲もない。ならば洋盤で十分。環境を考えても、無駄なコストは省くべき。
