Album Description

The Southern Wisconsin quintet, Luna Mortis, is about to make a huge impact on the metal scene with their epic, piercing debut release The Absence. The Ottoman Empire改めLuna Mortisの1stなのだが、メンバーは前のバンド名と同様です。
従来のプログレ・テイストはラスト1曲にナゴリがある程度であり、メタルコア度の強いメロデスに大変身しました。バンド名の変更は正解であろう。なぜなら今回、初聴きの方にはまた有望なデス＋クリーンを使い捲くる嬢メタルの誕生と絶賛できる可能性があるからだ。
しかし一方で従来からのOttoman Empireファンは手を出す前に要試聴です！過去のプログレ路線を望むと失敗します。これはレーベルの力量なのか？（嬢メタルの宝庫Century Media）
プロデューサーのなせる技なのか？（ALL THAT REMAINS, TRIVIUMのJason Suecof）
とりあえず言えることは完全に売れ線になり、Agonist,LTC好きあたりに好まれる要素はあるだろう。個人的にはクリーンパートに妖艶さが不足と感じる†

アメリカのエクストリームメタルバンド、ルナ・モーティスのアルバム。2009作
IN THIS MOMENT、The Agonistなど、女性声でありながらスクリームヴォイスで
歌いあげるバンドが、ここのところぐっと増えてきているが、このバンドもそのひとつ。
元はThe Ottoman Empireというバンド名でテクニカルなProgMetal的なことをやっていたらしいが、
本作でもかっちりとした演奏で、展開の多いアレンジで聴かせる手法はなかなかのもの。
モダンなエモコア要素と、北欧メロデス的なメロディアスなギターフレーズが合わさって
それなりに激しくも案外聴きやすい楽曲に乗るMary嬢の歌声は、
ノーマルで歌うとゴシックメタル風の趣があり、デス声の汚さとの対比がなんとも…笑
現時点では突き抜けた魅力はないのだが、質の高さでは他バンドにひけをとっていない。
