ファンが言うのもおかしいことかもしれませんが、昔のMartinは歌い方が随分と雑というか力強くも泥臭くて粗が目立っていました。しかし、『Martini Blend』の頃に拝見したインタビューで、「ここ数年でヴォーカリストとしてのプロ意識に目覚めた」と言っていてその頃から確実に楽曲のクオリティーと歌唱力は向上しました。力強さはそのままに、極限まで洗練され鈴木雅之にしか出せないテイストを築き上げました。彼を師と仰ぐゴスペラーズを始め近年は様々なアーティストとのコラボレーションも意欲的に取り組み、それがまた「オンリーワンの鈴木雅之」教えてくれるのです。今回のアルバムも実に多くの作詞家・作曲家のサポートを得て、デビュー30周年を迎えるにあたってこれまでにない輝きを放つMartinの本物の実力をこれでもかと聴かせてくれます。歌番組を拝見しても、ありきたりな言葉でもMartinにかかれば唯一無二のラブソングになってしまうことがはっきりとわかりました。30年活動を続けて、50代を迎えてなお右肩上がりに輝きを増すヴォーカリストは日本中、いや世界中を探してもMartinだけです。欲を言えばRats&Starの再集結を望むばかりです。

その時代とともに同じ空気を吸っているだけで幸せになれる気持ちになるアーティストが自分には何組かいます。Martinとの出会いも、彼のソロデビューの頃からですから本当に長くなりました。
今回のMartinは、デビュー30周年直前を迎え、彼が今まで培ってきたボーカリストとしての才能を存分に発揮していると思います。たとえば２曲目のジョアンナ、作詞が湯川れい子さん、作曲が柳ジョージさんという大御所を迎えたものすごくブルージーで人生経験の積み重ねがないとちっともおもしろくない曲を、絶叫するでもなく渋く受け止めながらしかし切々と歌う姿にMartinのボーカリストとしてのものすごい成長を見ました。他の曲も、簡単に歌っているように見えてやはり今のMartinだからこそこの歌が歌えるんだろうというものばかり。豪華な作詞、作曲陣が集まってもその曲を生かしつつMartinならではの世界にどんどん引き込んでいってくれます。
やはり、題名通り"Still Gold"ですね。Martinは。同じ時代に生まれたことを感謝したいと思います。

前作と違い今作は　もう最高の曲ばかりで超オススメ!　タイトル曲の他「Mirage」「キラリ誘惑」のダンサブルなノリも最高のことながら「ひとつだけ」のバックストリングスの素晴らしさには鳥肌がたち、「愛しているのに」は特に感動モノで聞き入りながら感激のあまり 年甲斐もなく涙がこぼれてしまいました!　とにかく今作は全曲が素晴らしい!!!作家人に恵まれているからというのがその理由でしょうが、彼の過去のアルバムの中でもピカ一です!
