粗野で乱暴な大道芸人ザンパノは、頭の弱い女ジェルソミーナをはした金で買い取り、女房代わりにして村から町をめぐり歩く。女が心を寄せた綱渡りの男は「お前だって役に立つ」と呼び込みラッパの吹き方を教えてやる。胸をかきむしる名テーマ曲「ジェルソミーナ」の調べ。芸人はその男を殴り殺し、女を海岸の町に置き去りにした。数年後、芸人はあの曲を耳にして人間愛に目覚め、夜の海に号泣する。純粋な女と野獣のような男の物語は底知れぬ感動を呼び、世界を虜にした。

ジェルソミーナ役の、ジュリエッタマシーナのキュートさに心を震わされる。喜怒哀楽のひとつひとつが素晴しく、悲しんでいると心が締め付けられ、楽しんでいるのを見るとつい微笑み返したくなる。劇中の出会った人々が彼女を愛すように愛してしまう自分がいる。ジュリエッタマシーナは、1994年に癌で亡くなられているので、もし生きていれば90歳のお婆ちゃん。映画を観ながら、この子がお婆ちゃんになったらどんな風になるんだろうとか、分かっていながらもついつい考えてしまう。ずっと見つめていたい、素敵な女性像があります。アンソニークインはアラビアのロレンスとか、崇高で厳格なイメージでしたが、ここでは、単細胞で、力でものをいわせる無骨な荒くれ者だが、以外に面倒見が良くて心優しい。人の純粋さ、愚かさ、情の儚さ、そして、取り返しのつかない後悔の念・・・。ニーノロータの曲が心を揺さぶる。名作です。淀川さんの解説で、日曜洋画劇場を思い出しながら鑑賞して下さい。

魂をゆさぶられること間違いありません。
いってみれば、永遠に読み継がれる古典文学の
ようなものです。映画の素晴らしさが結晶した
作品のひとつであることを確信いたしております。

いい映画でした。

とても。

いろんなことを考えるきっかけになる。

愛や死や、人生の楽しみや、自分のいる意味、石ころの意味。

ジェルソミーナという主人公の女の子。

あの子は幸せだったのか、不幸せだったのか。

誰かの役に立ったのか。


石ころは幸せだったのか。不幸せだったのか。

誰かの役に立ったのか。


おおいに見る価値はある映画ですね。
