2005年2月23日に発表されたデビュー・シングル「radiance」でシーンに登場した時から、既に充分すぎるほどの存在感と異彩を放ちまくっていた川田まみ。繊細なビブラートを伸びやかに響かせたその刹那、一転してパワフルな絶唱を聴かせる彼女のヴォーカル・スタイルは、〈極北の情熱〉とでも呼びたくなるような、全く新しい声の魅力を湛えている。2007年10月31日に発売された自身5枚目となるマキシシングル「JOINT」で遂にオリコン初登場9位を記録。2008年3月にはは自身2枚目となるアルバム「SAVIA」を発売。急速的に進化を遂げる彼女から、これからも目が離せない。

川田まみ嬢の7thシングル。アニメ『とある魔術の禁書目録』の新OPテーマ曲となっています。

1.masterpiece
タイトル曲で井内氏作曲。疾走感のあるデジタルロックな曲です。
6thシングルの『PSI-missing』のようなトランス調の楽曲ではなく、"井内節"とも呼ばれる井内氏独特のメロディーとコーラスワークの絶妙さが表れている一曲になっています。
まみ嬢の歌声も曲と相まって力強い印象を受け、PSI-missingとは違う疾走感が感じられました！

2.jellyfish
c/w曲で中沢氏作曲。編曲は同氏と尾崎氏という最近ではお馴染みになったコンビ。
今までのシングルCDのカップリングのようなバラード系辺りを予想してたのですが、全然違いましたｗ
I'veお得意の打ち込みビートにギターが入って、なかなかこちらもカッコイイ曲になっています。
同じ中沢氏作曲のPSI-missingのような派手さとは対に、渋く、ダークな曲調です。

今回も「とある魔術の禁書目録」のOP曲として
前作「PSI-missing」と同じ方向性を持った疾走感あるロックサウンドできました。
ただ今回は川田まみの曲ではおもにやわらかいバラード曲を書いている
井内さんの作曲曲ということでしたが、意外に、
こてこてばりばりの硬派ロックなつくりで、まずびっくり。
すごくインパクトのある旋律、というわけではないのですが
何回か聴きこむうちに、いつのまにか、
『とある魔術の禁書目録のOP曲』、というイメージから、
『川田まみ7thシングル、masterpiece』、としてのイメージに、
100%、変わっていました。
それぐらい雰囲気（アイデンティティ）を持っている作品ですね。
c/w曲「jellyfish」は、クラゲって意味ですが、あはは・・・、
こちらもとても曲題からはイメージできない硬派なトランスサウンド。
「Psychedelic」シリーズを彷彿するような単調な打ち込み音と、
情感を抑えたボーカルとの掛け合いがめちゃくちゃかっこいい。
こういうc/w曲はほんっと最高。

3rdアルバムに向け、非常にいい流れで来てますね。
ゆっくりと確実に、種は、空へ向け成長していると思います。

あとでジワジワくるタイプでした。飽きません。
随所随所に新鮮な部分が入っているというか。頭にのこるんですよね。
前作は正直食傷気味なI'veの王道という感じだったので、いい変化球でした。個人的には今期一番です☆
