まさに、世界中が待ち望んだアルバムである。空中分解してから、いつ復活してNEWアルバムを出すのか毎年待ち構えていたが、すでに諦め、過去のブート探しにも飽きた状態だった。メンバーが訳分からない、アクセルのソロアルバムじゃないか、ガンズは終わった等…の意見はあるかもしれないが、アクセルは全く色褪せていない。アクセル以降にアクセル以上のボーカリストは存在しないということを再確認した。もちろん、リアルタイムでアペタイト〜、GN′Rライズの衝撃を受けた我々としては、オリジナルメンバーの再結成を望んでいるが、とりあえず、アクセルの"声"と再びアルバムで会えたことは、奇蹟に近い。曲、メンバーはどうであれ、アクセルこそがガンズだった。しかし、再結成復活ライブを゛気長に゛待ちたい。

全曲通して聴いてみた。
オープニングの表題曲「CHINESE DEMOCRACY」、2000年の復活ライヴの時に発表されたものより随分アレンジが重ねられているが、冒頭のアクセルのシャウトに鳥肌が立った。スラッシュのギターも、ダフのベースも無く、当然イジーのリズムギターも無い。これがGUNS N’ ROSESかと言われたら、たぶん違うのだろう。したり顔で「こんなのGUNSじゃない」というファンも間違いなく現れるだろう。でも、ここには天才にしか創造し得ない音楽がある。

中盤の「THERE WAS A TIME」や、クイーンのブライアン・メイが参加したと言われている「CATCER IN THE RYE」は、天才アクセルにしか作れない名曲。

驚愕すべきはラストの2曲。アクセルの新境地と言える「THIS I LOVE」。元々アクセルはバラード・タイプの曲を作らせたら超一流だったけど、こんなタイプの曲を作って歌い上げるアクセルなんて想像できなかった。ロック・バラードと言うより「静かな凄い曲」としか言いようが無い。そしてラストの「PROSTITUTE」。この曲はネットにも流出してなかったと思うけど、こんな隠し玉があったなんて！確かにラストはこの曲しかあり得ない。

こんなに静かに、天国へ昇るような曲をラストに持ってくるなんてGUNSらしくない・・・なんてことは全然無くて、伝説の１stアルバムのラストを飾った名曲「ROCKET QUEEN」だって、ラストは転調して希望に満ちた世界へ誘ってくれるじゃないか。アクセルがやりたかったのはこれだったのか・・・。

確かに、このインターバルの長さは尋常ではありません・・・The Billboard Hot 100　３４位は健闘しましたが、時代の流れを感じさせます。

まぁ、発売されたのが奇跡なんですから、私は楽しませていただきます。
