もともと子役として早くからショウビズ界で活躍していたジェニーだが1998年にライロ・カイリーに加入音楽の道を歩み始める。そんな中2006年には女性2人The Watson Twinsを従え初のソロ・アルバム『ラビット・ファー・コート』(V2レコーズより)をリリース、マルーン5やデス・キャブ・フォー・キューティーなどの豪華なゲスト参加も話題を呼ぶ。その年のフジロック・フェスティヴァルそして東京ワンマン公演で日本でも大脚光を浴びた。
ローラ・ニーロやドリー・パートンに影響されたそのスタイルにプラスしてライロ・カイリーで培われた力強さ、たくましさそして女優出身という美貌もあって確固たる地位を築いている。
今回はそのアルバムに続き、2年ぶり2枚目となるアルバム。本人だけの名義となった作品はより生々しく彼女自身の姿を曝けだす傑出アルバムとなっている。また再びその才能に豪華なゲスト陣が集結、デュエット曲(「Carpetbaggers」)を披露したエルヴィス・コステロをはじめ、クリス・ロビンソン(ブラック・クロウズ)、ズーイー・デシャネル(ハリウッド女優/シー&ヒム)、パズ・レンチャンティン(元ア・パーフェクト・サークル)らが参加している。

rilo kileyの女性シンガー、jenny lewisの2ndアルバム。

rilo kileyの新作under the blacklightより重々しくシンプルなサウンド、
美しい歌声が響きわたる作品です。
オルタナティブ・カントリーロックといわれていますが、
色んなジャンルの音楽の要素が混じった、バランスが良い名盤だと思います。
とにかく歌声の美しさが素晴らしく、聴いているだけで幸せな気分になれます。
また前半と後半の構成が全然雰囲気が違う作品みたいです。
前半は今までのjennyに無いくらいの重く、暗いサウンドで展開されるんですが、
後半になると、これでもかというほど明るいカントリーサウンド全開の内容。
私は後半の方がjennyらしさが出ていて良く聴いています。

1度目に聴いた時より、2度目、3度目の方が好きになる。
何度も聴いてしまう名盤です。

オススメ曲は6.7.8.10

自身のバンド、ライロ・カイリーよりも実はいいアメリカーナの歌姫によるソロ第2弾アルバム。人気を決定づけた前作のソウルフルなカントリー路線を踏襲しつつ、エルヴィス・コステロとデュエットしたカントリー・ロック・ナンバーの8ほか、多彩な楽曲を披露している。
