アーティストについて

91年大阪にてTHE SAVOY TRUFFFLE結成。初の渡米ライブを経験し、98年1stアルバムを発表。その後、ヨーロッパ最大級のSWEDEN ROCK FESTに日本人のバンドとして初出演。彼らの名前はヨーロッパでも浸透し、フランスのサザンロック専門誌人気投票で1位を獲得する快挙。その後もコンスタントにアルバムを発売するも、04年の5th アルバム発売後のヨーロッパツアーを最後にヴォーカルの"もんじ"が突然脱退。その後、Chris Duarteを迎えJAPANツアーが実現、BLUESTONE COMPANYに改名し初のアルバムを06年発売。それに伴い、再度のJAPANツアー、ヨーロッパ、アメリカのロングツアーも成功(Z.Z.TOPやフォリナーの前座も)。8月には待望のニューアルバム(本作)がアメリカでもリリースされ、現在もChrisと全米25公演以上のツアーを実施中。今後も80年代の名プロデューサー、マイク・ヴァーニーの元、早くもニュー・アルバムのレコーディングを予定している。

全10曲。
カヴァー曲はミーターズのCissy Strutとジン・チのColonel Panicで、他はすべてオリジナル曲。
全インスト。

1stアルバムではヴォーカル＆ギターのクリス・ドゥアルテのサポートが大きかったが、今回のアルバムはいっさいゲストを迎えず、オリジナル・メンバーの4人のみで制作された。
むしろその分、クリスの色から解放されて、よりフリーハンドに楽曲を作り、縦横無尽なパフォーマンスが可能となった。

ブルーズロックを基調としつつ、フュージョン、ラテン、サザンロックなどの要素を取り入れるヘヴィー・ジャム・ロックが全面展開され、改めて彼らがめざす方向性が今回明確となった。
堅固で重量感を持ちつつもうねるようなグルーヴ感をたたきだすリズム隊と世界標準のスライド・ギターは健在で、さらにすごみが増したといえよう。

彼らの楽曲はロベン・フォード（というよりジン・チ）やビリー・コバムのスペクトラムあたりにも通じるものがあり、またそれはジミー・ヘリングがいたアクエリアム・レスキュー・ユニットにも通じる。
また、進化したガヴァメント・ミュールと言った方が近いかもしれない。
しかしながら、スペイシーなギターソロが展開されたり、パーカッションがフィーチュアーされていたり、アヴァンギャルドなアプローチもあって、そしてトリッキーなトランペットが登場したりと無国籍臭がただようあたり、明らかにこれらのグループとは一線を画している。

今回の作品はスタジオ・アルバムとしての完成度を重視して作り込んでいる感じだ。
1stアルバムとはまったく異なった作品だが、これは掛け値なしで良い。

サザン・ロックをある意味進化させ、ある意味大きく逸脱したブルーストーン・カンパニーの2ndアルバムは何かによってカテゴライズされることをかたくなに拒絶する、孤高の品格さえ感じる。
洋楽愛好家にありがちな「邦楽アレルギー」は彼らに関してはまったく杞憂であり、このアルバムを聴けばそんな偏見を持っていたことを後悔するに違いない。
これは、間違いなくコンテンポラリーなロック・アルバムの名盤だ。
