CHEMISTRYが今年のツアーで行ってきたバラードコーナーを形にしたいというコトバがきっかけとなり始まったプロジェクト。近年音楽シーンにおいて「ベスト盤」が特別なアイテムでは無くなってきている中、通常のベスト盤とは一線を画すバラードコレクションがCHEMISTRYの二人によってこの冬発売されます。その内容は、今なおファンの中で超名曲と名高いベスト未収録の楽曲「愛しすぎて」のセルフカヴァーと、CHEMISTRYを代表する冬バラード「My Gift to You」のセルフカヴァーを新録。デビューの頃に比べスキルアップした今の彼らが歌うこの2曲は純粋な足し算に留まることは無く、新たなケミストリーを産んでいます。そしてCHEMISTRYの選ぶ珠玉の名曲カバーも収録、2人がリスペクトしてやまない山下達郎「クリスマス・イブ」、欧陽菲菲「ラヴ・イズ・オーヴァー」を収録した上、ファンが選ぶCHEMISTRYのバラードにして欲しい曲を収録。他収録楽曲も「冬」を語る上で外すことのできない選曲、評判の高い楽曲ばかりをコンパイルしました。従来のファンは勿論、新規のファンをも獲得する冬のマストアイテムです!

『恋する雪　愛する空』のシングルを聴き、彼らのバラードをさらに聴きこみたくなった私はこちらを購入しました。
ベスト盤(通常盤)以前のCDを聴いた事がなかった私は、『愛しすぎて』『ココロノドア』『涙のあと』『クリスマスローズ』はこのアルバムで初めて聴きました。
彼らのバラードは耳に届くのではなく、心に届くバラードです。単にムードを演出するだけの曲とは違い、心に直接訴えかけ、包み込み、じんわりと沁み込んできます。
個人的な好みで恐縮ですが、特に『クリスマスローズ』の温かい歌詞と、『涙のあと』のサビの部分は涙腺が完全にゆるみます。
ベスト盤を聴き、それまでの彼らの曲をわかったつもりになっていた私ですが、彼らの場合はベスト盤に入りきれない、名曲がまだまだたくさんあったことを、このアルバムのおかげで知ることができました。

また、予約時から興味があった山下達郎『クリスマス･イブ』のカバーは、オリジナルとアレンジはほとんど同じですが、コーラス部分で二人の美しいハモリを聴くことが出来ます。
また欧陽菲菲『ラヴ・イズ・オーヴァー』のカバーは、二人のハモリとアレンジの上手さで見事に冬のバラードに仕上がっています。オリジナルをリアルタイムで聴いていた私もこれには新鮮な驚き！

この完成度の高いバラード･コレクションは、心を豊かにし、寒い冬を温かな気持ちで過ごすことができると実感しました。

CHEMISTRYのCDはひと通り持っているが、「冬」「バラード」の印象が強い彼らのそんなアルバム発売は、素直に嬉しい。

中でも、あの名曲「クリスマスイブ」は、かつてテレビで歌っていたこともあり、今回のアルバムでも一番期待していた。
原曲が有名すぎると、カバー曲はどうしても見劣りしてしまうものだが、彼らの透明感のある歌声と歌唱力で、原曲に負けず劣らずの仕上がりとなっている。
今後も「CHEMISTRYが歌うとどうなるんだろう?」というような名曲のカバーに期待したい。

その他にも、言わずとしれた名曲「My Gift to You」や最新Single「恋する雪 愛する空」などが収録されており、ファンならずともこの冬注目の一枚と言えそうだ。

CHEMISTRYの「冬」をテーマにしたバラードアルバムが完成。 個人的には山下達郎「クリスマス・イブ」のカバーに期待しています。その他にも「My Gift To You」「愛しすぎて」のセルフカバーやファンクラブ投票で選ばれた「It Takes Two」のバラードバージョンも収録!この冬、聴く者すべての心を温かくするCHEMISTRYのハーモニーをあなたも聴いてみては?
