７２年発表。元ユリエルのスティーヴ・ヒレッジが、元クレイジー・ワールド・オブ・アーサー・ブラウンの２人、ニック・グリーン・ウッド(b)、エリック・ビーチェイ(Dr) と結成したグループ。本作ではゲストとしてユリエル時代の盟友、デイヴ・スチュワート(k) が参加しているが、ゲストというよりもメンバーそのものであり、本作は彼のカラーも非常に強い。本作は数多いカンタベリー系の作品の中でも指折りの名盤の一つであり、ハットフィールズの２ｎｄと同等の評価を得ても良いくらいの優れた作品である。
１．は神々しい導入部から、なだらかでポップな中間部へ流れる展開の素晴しさが光る名曲。後の作品と比べるとほとんどスペーシーではないが、彼独特のカンタベリー・ジャズ・ポップスとでも言うべきサウンドは本当に魅力的。この一曲だけで決まりかもしれない。ヴォーカル、ギター共に既に完成の域に達している。ほぼハットフィールズに類似した曲でもある。２．はカーンの代表曲でもあるが、同時にカンタベリー・ミュージック屈指の名曲の一つでもある。この曲目当てに本作を買っても良いと思うほど。アコギのストロークにオルガン、エレピと絡んでいく美しい水彩画のような曲だ。
この曲に掛けるつもりではないが、アルバム全体が淡い絵画のような一つの美しい世界を構築している。またインストに片寄ることなく演奏とヴォーカルのバランスも非常に良い。このアルバムなくしてカンタベリー・ミュージックは語れないと思う。

　子供の頃からプログレ・ロックは好きであれこれ聞いてきたが,正直言って,カーンというグル-プ名も本作も初耳だった。
　しかし、購入してみてびっくりした。まだ、こんな隠れ逸品があったのか！
　ライナーを読んで、謎が氷解した。

　カンというグループは、スティーブ・ヒレッジが結成したトリオの唯一の作品だが、キーボードのデイヴ・スチュアートがジョイントしている。これが味噌だ！
　私は全く知識が無かったが、ヒレッジが最初に結成したバンドにはスチュアートらが在籍し、そこからなぜかヒレッジのみが脱退した後、残りの３人が継承したバンドが、エッグ、だったのだ。
　だから、初めて聞くにもかかわらず、どこか懐かしい（？）ような感触があったわけだ。

　デイヴ・スチュアートの、曇った大英帝国的な、ノン＝シンセのキーボード･プレイはここでも効果的だ。ヒレッジのギターももちろん良いが、ヴォーカルも結構聞ける。
　同時再発の、ダリル・ウェイズ・ウルフの３枚に比べて、明らかに格上だと思う。

　プログレ･ファンでまだの方は、是非お試しあれ！
