Album Details

2008 album from the British Prog/Pop rockers, their first studio release in 20 years. Original members John Beck (keyboards) and Bob Dalton (drums) have been joined by bassist Lee Pomeroy and vocalist/guitarist John Mitchell (formerly of Kino). While original leader Francis Dunnery is nowhere to be found, the classic sounds of It Bites remains with the band, chiefly due to the incredible keyboard work of John Beck. 12 tracks including 'Oh My God', 'Memory Of Water' and 'The Wind That Shakes The Barley'. 　It Bitesとして約２０年ぶりのオリジナルアルバムとなる本作。
往年のファンには喉から手が出そうなほどの待望のアルバムとなった。
　バンドの顔であったフランシス・ダナリーは脱退したものの、かつてのあのIt bites
サウンドは健在であり、内容的には非常に完成度の高いものとなった。
　分厚いコーラスハーモニー、ファルセットを十分につかったメロディライン、キーボードを核とした洗練された楽曲、どこをとってもIt　Bitesであり、「名盤」と呼んでもおかしくない作品に仕上がった。
　歴史に「もし、、、」という言葉は存在しないが、もしフランシス・ダナリーがこの作品
に参加していたら？と思わずにはいられない。しかしながら、Gt＆Voのジョン・ミッチェルもすばらしく、ギターの腕も確かだし、（そして声質も似ているので、）フランシス・ダナリーの後任としてふさわしい逸材だと思う。
　一ファンとして、新生It　Bitesの復活を歓迎したい。（そしてライブも観てみたい）
全曲ずばらしいが、個人的には１、２、５、７、１０曲目が良いと思う。
　往年のファン、買って損はないよ！

賛否両論、☆５個と☆３個に分かれているようですが、実は私も聴き始めて1週間程は1曲目を除いて「スリリングな展開のない捉えどころのない作品」という印象でした。その時感想を求められていたら☆３個だったでしょう。CD棚の肥やしにする前にもう一度．．．と思って聴いていたところ、突然視界が開けたように各楽曲の素晴らしさが迫ってきたのですよ。特にOnce around the worldを彷彿とさせるThis is Englandの展開など十分スリリングじゃないですか。文句なしの☆５個。昔からのIt Bitesファンで今回☆３個以下の方、念のためもう一回ヘッドフォンで聴き込んでみたらいかがですか？

捨て曲無しの名盤を、まさか今の時代にフランシス・ダナリー抜きでリリースしてくるとは、正直、想像だにしていなかった。
これまでの認識を改めなければならない。
際立った存在感でフロントマンだったダナリーの独特の詠い回しや癖のあるちょい変態ギターフレーズこそがこのバンド生命線だと思っていた。
脱退後のダナリーがやや迷走気味の音楽生活を送っていることに対して、昨今は一抹の寂しさを感じていたところに、突如?このようなアルバムを世に送り出してくるとは!
往年のファンをがっかりさせることはまずはあり得ない内容である。
そればかりか懐古主義的でもなく、何かしらの「進歩」すら感じさせる出来映えだ。
素敵なプレゼントをありがとう。
