今回のアルバムは、リスナーが前作(ｳｨｰｸｴﾝﾄﾞ･ｲﾝ･ｻﾞ･ｼﾃｨ)から何を期待して待っていたかで意見が分かれるでしょうね。

前作のI still rememberのような胸が高まるような曲は残念ながらありません。
ブロパの基本的な音楽性と完成度の高さは変わってないのですが、新しいものを得たと同時に、何かを失ったという感じです。

ですがやはりブロパならではの、ブロパにしか出来ないアルバムだと思います。
2.Mercuryはバンドとしては革新的な仕上がりですし、
6. Signs は感涙盤として名を残すでしょう。


もし今回のアルバムに不満があるのなら、彼らのライヴ動画を探してみるといいでしょう。彼らは確実に成長しています。

こういうバンドが評価されるイギリスの土壌がうらやましい。全世界的に成功をおさめているBlocParty。フジロック2008で見ましたが、エフェクターたっぷりつかってました。かっこいい…

今までとの違いはダンスミュージックの要素をがっつりあげてきたところですかね…それがとてもでかいわけですが。ニューウェーブなんでしょうか…デジタル感を。1曲目を聞けばもうそれがひしひしと伝わってきます。ちょっと大袈裟に言えばプロディジー的な要素があります。そしてボーカルの歌いまわしがまた力強い…

　日本版のライナーにも書いてあったけどギターのトレモロプレイや、ポストロックであるような変則プレイ、シングルコイル特有のチャリーンという音は少し影をひそめております。ベース、ドラムを中心とした踊れる曲が耳についてくる。明らかに前作のシリアス路線とは違う！

でもファーストにあったようなポストロック的、ギターロック的なしびれる曲も入ってましたね。セカンドにあったような静的な曲も入ってるし、こういういろんな要素に手を伸ばすバンドはすばらしいと個人的に思います。

最近の新人バンドは1stだけ良くて後は失速するというケースが多々ある。
仮に良くても2ndまでで3rdは目も当てられないなんてのはざらだと思う。

そんな中で1stからUKバンドの中では独自のポジションを確保しながら成長を続けてきたBloc Partyが放った渾身のアルバムが今作だ。

変化と成長の維持という最も困難な行為を3rdアルバムに至るまで継続できるとは．．．。

バンドの音楽性をアルバムの都度変化させるという行為は、本来であれば想像を絶するプレッシャーを伴うものであろう。
それは今までの音楽性で既に一定の評価を得ていればいる程に大きいものだろう。

そんな多くのバンドが結果的に避けてしまう道を堂々と渡ったBloc Party。

それだけで充分に賞賛に値するだろう。

今作において特に特徴的なのは明らかにリズム面での変化であろう。

無機質な空気を漂わせているが、そんな空気の上にBloc Partyのコアな部分は確実に表現されている。

このバンドは一体どこまで進化し続けるのであろうか．．．。

以下、全曲解説。

静と動を行き来するBloc Partyらしさを兼ね備えつつ新境地を作り出した「Ares」
連呼するサビフレーズと不穏な空気が独特の世界を作り出す「Mercury」
圧倒的なテンポで迫る「Halo」
デジタル音楽という印象ではあるが、美しいメロディが見事に融合した「Biko」
次々と変化するギターサウンドが印象的な「Trojan Horse」
オルゴールの様な優しい音色が印象的な「Signs」
徐々に高まっていくテンションに引き込まれる「One Month Off」
今までのアルバムにはなかった今作らしい雰囲気の一つである「Zephyrus」
終盤にかけてポップ感が増す部分が好きな「Talons」
曲の雰囲気が二転三転する「Better Than Heaven」
時には語りかける様に時には熱く奏でられるメロディが響く「Ion Square」
