今回の8年ぶりのエルヴィス・紙ジャケ発売12点の内、
文字どおり、「ジャケ」的に一番うれしかったのは、
この『初めてのクリスマス』である。

私はエルヴィス歴14年なので、完全にＣＤになってからの後追いファンである。
前回の紙ジャケ発売の時も、
この『初めてのクリスマス』をアルバム単位としては
まだきちんと認識してはいなかった。
エルヴィスの・クリスマス・ソングは私がファンになった当時に出た
編集アルバム『毎日がクリスマスなら』を
もっぱら聞いていた（オリジナル・アルバムにはまだ到達していなかった）。
この『毎日がクリスマスなら』には、50年代60年代70年代すべてのクリスマス・ソングが
収録されているので、当然『初めてのクリスマス』収録の曲もすべて網羅は、されている。

が、違う。なにかが違う。
そう、違うのは「ジャケ」だっ。

この『初めてのクリスマス』は、この４×３のかわいいイラストの
ジャケがプリティよいのだ。このジャケを眺めていると、いかにも
「クリスマス」という雰囲気にさせられる。
外は寒くて雪も静かに降っているけれど、
なんだかとっても暖かい気分になってしまう、そんなジャケなのだ。
そして遠目に見ると、みんなイラストにみえるが、
なんと、よく見ると、右下と左下にはちゃんとエルヴィスがいるのだ。
しかも、お茶目にサンタと雪だるまになってるし。
うおおおおおおおおおおおおおおおお！！！！！！！！

このジャケの良さに気がついた時は、すでに前回の紙ジャケ発売後であったため
「ああ、なんでこのアルバム、あの時紙ジャケで出なかったんだろう。
Tadの大将にリクエストしとけばよかった。くやし〜」
と、思っていたので、だから、
　　　　（当時、中古レコード屋さんでこのＬＰレコード探して買いました♪）
だから今回のこのアルバムの紙ジャケ化が、とてもとてもうれしいのである。

曲がすべて70年代のエルヴィス・クリスマス・ソングであることも、素晴らしく良い。
　　（実を言うと、『毎日がクリスマスなら』を聞くとき、私は50年代の曲を
　　　飛ばして聞いてました。すみませ〜ん。70年代のコクのあるエルヴィスの
　　　声が好きなのだ。癒されるのだ）

ボーナス・トラックに
1.メリー・クリスマス・ベイビー （シングル・ショート・ヴァージョン）
2.シルヴァー・ベルズ （オルタネイト・テイク、 カセット・テープ・ヴァージョン）
が付いているのも、滅茶嬉（めちゃうれ）しい。

前者は1971年12月発売のシングル・レコードのＡ面のショート・バージョン、
後者は1992年11月発売のカセット・シングル・オンリーでの（カセットだぜ。カセット！）
別テイクという、今では入手困難のレア・アイテム音源です。

ああ生きていて、よかった。
