ValveのゲームなのでSteam導入（起動時にインターネット認証）が必須になります。
Steamから直接購入できるDL版は29.99ドル（11月20日現在）です。
クレジットカードが使えてブロードバンド回線の方はSteamのDL版をお勧めします。

■ハーフライフ2（HL2）
FPSの歴史的名作ハーフライフの続編ハーフライフ2。
当時としては革新的な物理演算を盛り込んだゲームエンジン（ソースエンジン）は衝撃的でした。
この物理演算を利用したギミックやパズル要素、重力銃など従来のFPSとはひと味違う楽しさがあります。
2004年のゲームですがグラフィックを最高設定にすれば最近のゲームにも引けを取りません。
※それなりのPCスペック（ビデオカード必須）が必要になります。
続編（拡張版）であるエピソード1とエピソード2もセットになっています。
また、このゲームはユーザーによるMOD製作が盛んで、最近ではSteamで公認MODの配信もしています。
※MOD：元のゲームに様々な要素を追加したり、まったく別のゲームに変えたりできる。

■ポータル（Portal）
銃で撃ち合う今までのFPSとは全く異なる、3次元FPSパズルゲーム。
斬新なアイデアと意外な展開も必見。

■チームフォートレス2（TF2）
チーム戦を重視したオンライン対戦FPSゲーム。
多彩なクラスとコミカルなグラフィック（でもちょっとグロい）
FPSのマルチプレイが初めての方にもお勧めです。
赤と青ですぐチームが識別でき、FF（同士討ち）がないので遠慮無く撃ち込んでください。

以前、HL2単体や続編を大枚はたいて買った人達としては憤慨ﾓﾉですが、
'09/8現在ネット配信でタダ同然で手に入ります。

今だから冷静に語れます。
HL2とPortalは未だに定価払う価値のある作品ですが、episode1&2は駄作です。
HL2で飽きるほど戦わされたゾンビ、アントライオン、警備兵達と
再び延々と相手させられるだけでHLの謎は何一つ解明されません。

謎解きや武器の配置、使用方法が実に巧妙です。簡単か難しいかで言えば簡単なんですが、闇雲に武器や謎解きがあるのではなく、先に進むための、なぜそれを使うのかの必然性が実によく考えられてます。要するにゲームとしての完成度がとてつもなく高い。また物理的にもいい動きをするので世界観に没入しやすいです。最高のFPSと自信を持って言えます。

グラフィックスも非常にキレイ。その割に軽い。それだけでも嬉しくなります。

早くエピソード3がしたい。
