本盤を『グランジから影響を受けた』などと言う輩が多いが、そもそもグランジがBLACK SABBATHから影響を受けている訳で、本家がコレを演って何が悪いんだ?


USハードコア(特にBLACK FLAGのグレッグ・ギンに顕著だが)にすらBLACK SABBATHの影響は滲んでいる。


即ちヘヴィー・リフによるダークなHRはBLACK SABBATHがオリジネイターな訳ですよ。



ロニー・ジェイムス・ディオが参加しているから『様式美』を求めたり、『HEAVEN AND HELL part2』を求めたりするから評価の軸がブレる訳で、コレは1992年版のBLACK SABBATH流HRアルバムなんです。


しかもプレイヤビリティー、楽曲共に質が高い。

発表された当初は「遂にサバスまでモダンヘヴィに侵食された！」と
総スカンを食らった（私も苦手だった）アルバムだが、
今あらためて聴き直すと普通にカッコ良い（笑）

特に"TV Crimes"は出色のデキで、
ヘヴィ（で尚且つキャッチー）なアイオミのリフも素晴らしいが
特筆すべきは、その後ろで泥酔して大男がオノを振り回すがごとく暴れまわる

ギーザー・バトラーのぶっといベース！

これはまさに「ドライヴィング・ベース」と言えるモノで
ギターソロの最中なのに素晴らしくカッコ良いフレージングの
ベースに耳を奪われます（笑）

発表当時から私は本盤を高く高く評価しております 久しぶりにロニー・J・ディオがサバスに帰ってきたアルバムでしたが、以前の『ヘヴン&ヘル』の天使だの悪魔だのという古色蒼然のファンタジー路線とそれをサタニズムに修正した『悪魔の掟』から、更に変革を試みて近未来的なSF的世界観を導入、音作りもモダンなハードネス&ヘヴィネスを追求して、サバスの心境地を切り開いた作品だからです この進歩的な試みを理解できないアホな評論家どものせいで、当時から正当な評価が得られていなかったのですが、これからお聴きになる方は、どうか偏見なしで楽しんでいただきたいと思います 残念ながら、音の面はともかく、本盤のようなモダンな世界観を示した作品は他にはありません 私は70年代のオジー時代からリアルタイムでしつこくサバスを聴き続けておりますが、この世界観をもって、本盤を価値ある1枚だと力説したいと思います
