ノリックは中学卒業と同時にアメリカ武者修行がモータースポーツを始めたきっかけだと思い込んでいたが誤っていた。
ノリックは中学からミニバイクで始めていた。とは言っても遅咲きかもしれない。というのは同年代の加藤大二郎，青木三兄弟は既にやっていたからだ。しかもノリックよりも速いバイクに乗っていたそうな。というような知らない話から始めり，ノリックのレースキャリアをひとつひとつ紐解いてゆく。インタビューの中で語る精神論，ライテク話は軽い口調で語られるのだが俺には重くのしかかった。
DVDを観てノリックは天才だったとつくづく感じた。18歳で全日本最高峰クラスチャンピオンになるというライダーは未だに現れないからだ。1993年の話だからあれから15年経つのに現れないというのは天才だといえるだろう。しかもワイルドカードで1994年世界戦（Grand Prix of Japan 1994 SUZUKA CIRCUIT）に参戦し最後尾から怒濤の如く追い上げてトップグループに追いつきケビン・シュワンツ，マイケル・ドゥーハンを年式の古いバイクでバトルし挙げ句の果てに抜いてしまうという偉業を成し遂げた。例えば2008年のMotoGPに例えるとロッシ，ストーナーを旧型マシンで挑み抜いてしまったということになる。おそるべしノリック。この伝説はいまもなおロッシが尊敬するライダーとしてノリックを挙げる所以だろう。
ノリックの素晴らしいことはこのようなライディングだけではなくモータースポーツの発展を願った活動も讃えられるべきだと思う。
ノリックを偲ぶのではなくノリックの死を無駄にしたいためにもライダーの一人として何かやらねば誓った。そして「ノリックのためにもグットライダーになる」という気持ち今一度あらたにするのであった。
