金属製のコマの周囲を鉄製リングがガードしていることで、安定した回転を得ることができる遠心力応用科学教育玩具、地球ゴマ。
地球ゴマ（ちきゅうごま）は、フランスの物理学者ジャン・ベルナルド・レオン・フーコーが1852年に実験で用い命名したジャイロスコープの原理に基づく純国産玩具であり、名古屋で製造・販売している株式会社タイガー商会の登録商標。
円盤が高速で回転運動を行っている間は、外部から力が加わらないかぎり回転軸の向きが常に一定不変に保たれ、 回転軸にいったん外力を加えると、その加えた力とは直角（垂直）の方向へ回転軸が移動。
この二つの特性をジャイロ効果とよび、地球ゴマはそれを独楽（こま）の原理にしたもの。
地球ゴマという名前の由来は、これを使うと地球の自転・公転運動を説明できるところから付けられ、地球も地軸を23.4度傾けて回転する一種のジャイロとみなすことができ、その地軸の傾きが常に一定不変であるがゆえに四季の移り変わりが生まれる。
地球ゴマは、地球の自転・公転運動をはじめ、船舶のジャイロコンパス、航空機のオートパイロット、船舶や航空機の横揺れを防ぐジャイロスタビライザーの仕組みなどを分かりやすく説明できるため、「遠心力応用科学教育玩具」として全国の大学、高等専門学校、科学クラブでも教材に活用されます。
