「大学でバロック音楽の演奏を専攻した僕が、20代半ばに、アイルランドにて、この国の17,8世紀の音楽の楽譜集を見つけた時の奇妙な感じは、今も忘れない。アイルランドの伝統音楽の魅惑的な旋律にくらべ、そこにはあまりに不可解で、理解不能な音符が並んでいた。(中略)アイルランドでお年寄りのお百姓さんの音楽家たちと、たくさん付き合う中、それらの楽譜に載っていた曲が、魅力たっぷりに演奏されるショッキングな状況に、何度も遭遇した。彼らのほとんどは、楽譜もまったく読めない人たちだった。17,8世紀に楽譜に書かれた作品は、この国では、今なお、口承で伝え続けられていたのであった。(中略)アイルランドで毎年数ヶ月を過ごし、(中略)多くの民族音楽や伝統芸能の現場と出会う経験を積んだあと、ある時、手元のアイルランドとスコットランドの17,8世紀の楽譜を目にして驚いた。それらすべての曲が、突如、命を持った名曲として、よみがえってきたのである。今回のCD は、その喜びと驚きを、皆さんと分かち合うこと、そして、僕がこの20年ほど深く関わっているアイルランドの伝統音楽の魅力をお伝えすることが目的である。」(守安功:ライナーノーツより)
