長い歴史の中で、シーアンドケイクは変わらないようで変わっている。
本作をきいてそんなことを思いました。

何度目のピークを迎え、そのバンドのテンションをそのままセッションして封じ込めたかのような作品です。
前作「everything」とも通じるロック・アティチュードを感じさせる作風なれど、以前持っていたたおやかなセンスが加味され、
微妙な違いながらも、今までにない作品に仕上がっています。
彼らのバンドとしてのカラーは本当にゆるぎないしっかりしたもので、それは作品をひとつでも聴いた人間なら実感できるものです。
若干変則的なコードに乗せて、ホントに効いていて気持ちのよい、柔らかな楽器のアンサンブルを響かせる。
いってみれば１０年以上ひたすらにそういうサウンドを追求してきたからこそ、伸びきったベクトルの先にある表現力を掴めるのでしょう。
マッケンタイアのドラミングは、タイトさとソフトな感触を併せ持ちますます気持ちいい。
サムのボーカルも気持ちのよい秋風のような感触で、デビュー時と比べると声もだいぶ変わったよなあ。
まるで楽器のひとつであるかのように、演奏の中をたゆとっている。
パッと聴きには装飾を廃したライトな音源に、これらのキャリアが結集しています。

バンドとして変わらないまま、キャリアを通じて変わっていってほしい。
妙な表現になってしまったけど、そんな風に感じるバンドです。

前作に比べ奥行きが増した。完成度で言えば一番良いと思う。
ただ個人的にはナッソー前後の作品の持つ気怠さ、パンキッシュなところに魅力を感じているので☆で言えば４つ。
よくも悪くも前作の延長的な作品。

ただ、このアナログ盤には購入者対象のダウンロードファイルがアナウンスされており、面倒な手数を踏まずともiPodなどで同内容の楽曲が楽しめる。
（案内されたサイトへ行き、同梱されているパスを入力してダウンロードする。内容はアナログ盤と同内容であり、ボーナストラックなどはない）
アナログ盤を購入しつつ、DAPを併用している私のような購買層にはとてもありがたい使用なのでプラス一個☆。
このようなサービスはもっと積極的にされていいと思う。

もうとにかく心地よいビートと清涼感あるヴォーカルが最高に気持ちよい作品。
ベテランらしい緻密で凝ったサウンドプロダクション、風を切るような爽やかな
メロディーラインに心躍らされます。
"weekend"のＰＶも最高にノスタルジックで良いです。

ドライブにチルアウトに夏の思い出に部屋の掃除のＢＧＭに最適な
２００８年ベスト・ディスクの１枚。
