何度も映画化、ＴＶドラマ化されたこの物語は、いまやＳＦの古典、ファンタジーノベルの代表作という感じです。原田知代さんが主役を演じたこの作品は、角川映画が頑張っていた頃の代表作の一つと言えると思います。角川映画の薬師丸ひろ子さんに続く二人目のヒロインとして清々しいイメージの原田さんが、この映画の中に綴じられています。今見ても微笑んでしまう瑞々しさですね。大林監督の演出は、尾道の瓦屋根の日本的な家屋とミステリアスなファンタジーが溶け合っていて印象に残る場面が沢山あります。時間がずれていくというが実に見事に画面で作られていると思いました。ここは何度みてもため息が出ます。あの寝すぎたりして時間が飛んでしまった時のような、不思議な感覚が映像で作り出した大林監督の演出は凄いと思います。安心して楽しめる映画です。

今の若い人たちにとっては、ツッコミどころ満載の映画でしょう。公開当時大学生だった私も、「なんなんだこの演技は」、「わっ、主役が歌いだして、しかもカメラを見た」なんて驚きましたから。でもいいんです。人を好きになった時の揺れる想いや、それをうまく伝えられないもどかしさが感じられ、やさしく穏やかな気持ちになれますから。それに何より、２６年も前のあの頃と、あの頃の原田知世、そしてあの頃この映画を観た人たちの思い出がいっぱい詰まっているのですから。

文庫、映画、アニメとも、それぞれ独自の道を示していて、面白い作品群になっていると思いました。

今日まで、大林監督の作品だと知らずに愛好していました。
レビューを書こうと思って知ることも多いのだと感じています。
