Oasis(オアシス)の3年ぶりとなる7枚目のアルバム。

「従来のパターンではなく、もっとトランス状態を駆り立てるような、より疾走感を持ったグルーヴ感のある音楽を作りたかった」というノエルのコメントに代表される様に、基本的にリズム構成やテンポに関しては、ここ数枚のアルバムと一線を画す部分が有るアルバムではある。

Oasisの評価に関しては初期2枚のアルバムが大絶賛されていて、それ以降はそこそこの評価とされる事が少なくない無いのは事実だと思う。
その理由の一つとして個人的に思うのは「初期の頃に持っていたスピード感の喪失」というのがあると思う。
初期以降も悪くはないものの1st時期のスピード感が無い為、アルバムが間延びして聞こえてしまう部分も少なくない。

今作において一番特筆すべきはそのスピード感が上がられるだろう

とはいえ全ての曲がそうだと言える訳ではなく代表的なラインでは「The Turning」「The Shock Of The Lightning」「Falling Down」といった所で、それらを上手く散りばめる事で、あたかもアルバム全体がスピード感に溢れているかのような印象を持たせている部分はあると思う。

故によくよく聞いてみると1曲目〜4曲目までは一気に聴けて、5曲目で一休みをした後は7曲目の「Falling Down」以外は後半が怠いかなぁ〜というのが率直な感想ではある。

この後半にゲムとアンディが1曲づつ提供してはいるが、どっちも個人的には微妙。
この二人は過去に自分のバンドで曲を作っていた時にはもっと凄い曲を書いていたと思うので、なんだか残念。

結果、方向性としてはかなり好きなアルバムである事は事実。
少し惜しいのはアップテンポな曲がもう1〜2曲あって、ノエルが作ってリアムが歌うパターンのど真ん中バラードが一曲あれば初期以降では文句無しで一番の作品になっただろうと思う事。
でも、結果的には細かい事はどうでもいいんです。
Oasisの曲が聴ければそれでw

以下、全曲解説
リアムの野太い声と行進曲の様な力強いリズムが圧倒的な「Bag It Up」
今作を象徴するようなリズムの構成が気持ちよすぎる「The Turning」
1曲目の「Bag It Up」とリズムの基本構成が似ている「Wating For The Rapture」
約5分という長さを感じさせないスピード感が爽快なシングル曲「The Shock Of The Lightning」
リアムが作った名バラードというかレノンな「I'm Outta Time」
前作の「The Importance Of Being Idle」と同じノリで作られた感がある「(Get Off Your) High Horse Lady」
Beatlesの「Tomorrow Never Knows」を連想させる「Falling Down」
シタールが特徴的という以外は特にない「To Be Where There's Life」
カッコよさげだけど何かが足りない感がある「Ain't Got Nothin'」
リフはかっこいいがメロディが今一歩な「The Nature Of Reality」
タイトルを連呼する部分が印象的なラスト（ボートラを除く）。「Soldier On」

前作と同様に今作も、どっちつかずで、中途半端な印象を受けたのが正直な感想である。新しいことをやりたいのか、あくまで元来のOasisを貫き通すのか。今作もそのあたりがハッキリと見えなかったのが、個人的に残念ではある。

良く言えば多彩で、従来通りOasisの音楽が分かりやすく表現されている(いかにもイギリスのバンドといった陰鬱なクールさなどは相変わらず)。悪く言えば、バラバラとしていて、かき集め的な作品に見えてしまうのだ。

印象に残った２曲を紹介したい。４曲目の『The Shock Of The Lightning』は爽快なロックナンバーで、とにかくかっこいい。ギターサウンドなどはOasisらしさが全面に出ていて聴きやすい。メロディも覚えやすく、つい口ずさんでしまいそう。初めてOasisを聴く人にもインパクトは十分。昔からのファンである私も何度も聴いてしまう程、気に入っている。

５曲目の『I'm Outta Time』は弟のリアム(Vo)が手がけた楽曲で、なにやら怪しい雰囲気をかもし出していて興味深い。というより、ビートルズのカバーのように思えて仕方がないのだが……。『Songbird』(Heathen Chemistryに収録)もそうだが、リアムのつくる曲は幻想的で、あどけない。どこか不安定で、モヤモヤしているメロディが印象的だ。

なんかあれこれ言われてるみたいだけど、凄くいい！
聴けば聴くほどこのアルバムの良さが分かります。
買って損なしです。
