ART-SCHOOL1年ぶりのミニアルバム。同時にベストアルバムも発売。
ベストのほうはライブの定番曲やアルバムのリードトラックを中心に
今までのアートを振り返る初心者向けのアイテムだと思っているが、
木下理樹のセルフライナーノーツによるといずれコアなリスナー向けのベストも出したいそうだ。
個人的には「EVIL」がそっちに収録されるのかが気になるこの頃。

しかし、このミニアルバムもある意味初心者には優しいかもしれない。
今までとは違う、キラキラした音触りで今までどおりの世界観を描いているので。

表題曲の「ILLMATIC BABY」がとにかく格好いい。今作はこれに尽きる。
や、それ以外の曲も全然いいんだけどついついこの曲を何度もリピートしてしまう。
ダークなリフとDOPING PANDAフルカワユタカ・プロデュースのダンスビート的なサウンドメイクが
ぴったりはまっていて非常に気持ちいい。　何よりARTらしい一曲、と感じるのが大きい。
直接的に官能を歌う歌詞とギラギラしたバンドサウンドの絡み合いがなんともいえず。
打ち込みを使ってる曲が幾つかあるけど、サウンドの手触り的には十分ロックを感じれる。

後、今回はいつもよりシンプル。曲の展開もわかりやすいし
「INSIDE OF YOU」「BROKEN WHITE」とかのサビは一つのフレーズを繰り返すだけの
単純なものになっていて、それが逆に新鮮だったり。言葉数も少ない。
どうやら簡単な言葉やフレーズで深みや聴き応えを出そうとしているように思える。
「君はいま光の中に」は流れるように美しいバラードだったりするけど。
「エミール」はそれを更に滑らかにしたようなこれまた綺麗な楽曲。

一曲一曲がキラキラしている聴きやすいミニアルバム。
歌詞の内容は木下節全開なので、ベストと共に聴けば相乗効果でもっと面白いかも。
アートを聴き始めるには抜群のタイミングなのかもしれない。
来るべきアルバムがどうなるのかも楽しみ。

先日ライブに久しぶりに参加しましたが、何年か前に行った時より雰囲気がとても良かったです。そしてアートの現在の充実振りがすごい伝わってきました。作品にもそれがひしひしと感じ取れます。今のART-SCHOOLの自然がそのまま出ている作品ではないでしょうか。

表題曲は、見事にドーパン色に染まっていて驚きましたが、ノリノリで、これはこれでアリです。全体的に陰鬱な曲は一つもなく楽しいキラキラとした印象を受けました。個人的には君はいま光の中にとエミールが良い感じ。その中でも｢君はいま光の中に｣は珍しくサビ前にBメロが来て、とても盛り上がるバラード曲、シングルカットしても良いくらい聴き応えのある曲です。おススメです。

とてもART-SCHOOLらしい一枚。特に「君はいま光の中に」は痛みを優しく包み込み、そっと隣にいてくれるような一曲だ。
同時発売のベストアルバムが初心者向けなら、こちらは昔からのファンにも楽しめるものだ。
木下理樹さんの創る世界はなぜこんなにも美しいのだろう。
心を傾けたものたちは皆過ぎ去ってしまう。醜いものばかり見てきて、それでも光の中へと行こうとするとき、この歌たちは救いだ。
