最初に聞いたのはまだＣＤがなかった頃で、アーティストの名前にもインパクトがあったのですが
曲名にも当時は「・・・！？」という印象でどんな曲なのだろうと興味を惹かれた記憶があります。
「テレフォン・アンド・ラバー・バンド」も、当時は『電話機のプッシュ音をそう使うか~！！』と、思わず◎でしたし
「ピタゴラスのズボン（「Pythagoras's　Trousers」-当時の日本盤の曲名）」を最初聞いた時は、
曲名と曲調があまりにも「妙に納得！」のせいで、思わず笑ってしまいました。
はまってしまう1枚です。

気持ちよく聞き流せるし、ひとたび注意を向ければひとつひとつの音を楽しむこともできる。その意味でサティの「家具の音楽」というコンセプトの正当な継承者ともいえると思います。サティと違うのは、サティがただひたすら美しいのに対し、PCOの音楽は美しく、かつ笑えるところ。このCDはPCOの魅力がバランスよくちりばめられてるところで、最初の1枚にお奨めできます。健在なら、今どんな音楽をやってたんでしょうね、サイモン・ジェフス。

日本では確かこれが最初のアルバムだったような記憶が。私は渋谷陽一氏の番組で初めて聞きました。不思議なと言うよりは、ちょっと不気味な人間ペンギンとペンギンのジャケット。しかし、サウンドは極上。大学時代、人形劇にこのアルバムの音楽を使いました。当時はレコード店。どういうジャンルに入れたらいいのか、お店も困っていたらしく、ＢＧＭのコーナーにおいてあったような。が、ＢＧＭどころか、さまざまな豊かなイメージを届けてくれる。数年前、リーダーの訃報を知り、愕然としました。もう、新作を聞けないのが何より残念。
